Congratulations, Melody!
Oh, that is SUCH GOOD NEWS. I feel SO HAPPY FOR YOU!
Ohh my gosh!! congratz!! This feels like a good step forward!! (i dont know if insurance companies usually pay for stuff like this.. do they?)
Woohoo! :icon_joy:
That's great news Melody!
Congrats!!!! I'm very happy for you! If I remember right your going to bower's? Oh, I'm jealous too ;D
Melody, that's FANTASTIC!! Congratulations! What an enormous load off your shoulders, and what a nail-biter, I can imagine, waiting until 2 weeks prior for approval! Whereas I'll (hopefully!) have my approval in April or May, then get to wait 8 months or so for my surgery (long waiting list). Anyway, keep us updated, with ALL the gory details, and we're SO proud of you! You're an inspiration!
Kia Ora M,
::) That is great news and I'm truly happy for you...
::) However over the years I wonder how much money the individual pays[in fees when taking out insurance]to the insurance companies ? Would the amount paid in cover the cost of surgery anyway ?
::) I know it's not the same but I like to think the taxes I paid over the years covered my 'government' funded surgery...

You know I've always thought about that too. Hmmmmm
I pay approximately $100 per month for my insurance or about $1200 a year. The surgery costs about $23,000 today. That means it would take nearly 20 years for me to pay the insurance company in fees the amount it cost them. In the meantime, the insurance also covers doctor's visits and medications. So yes, I think it is more than worth it.

Kia Ora M,
::) Thank, however what I was really getting at, is have you 'always' been covered by health insurance ?
::) The US from what I gather is not a 'welfare state' it's a user pays one, so over the years did your parents pay for health insurance for the family [including yourself]... And if for example one didn't suffer any major illnesses how much money would they have paid to insurance companies over the years?[When taking into account the cost of one off surgery]...

Impossible to say really. I've had insurance most of my life, but it has been in recent years that the employee contributions have started to climb. There are those who say we should only have insurance for catastrophic things and pay cash for the rest. That may make sense, I don't know.
Congratulations on both the approval for surgery and the insurance coverage. As beautiful as you were in your other thread, I suspect the pictures of you after you heal will be even more so since we will see more of your light since you are finally "whole".
