Title: Short Hair styles
Post by: Cyndigurl45 on January 30, 2012, 06:18:18 AM
Wigs just don't work well for me, I am trying to find a simple short hair style. My job says I must have off the collar blah, blah so I have a sorta Steve Douce (FOX and Friends) style.  I need some help and advice please :)

Well I just got a pixie haircut and I love it. Its a great style to switch from boy to girl mode.

But a good tip is to find your face shape. Then you can look up short hairstyles that match your face.

Good luck hugs :)

That's what I'm wondering, as well. I've tried several of those virtual makeovers and browsed around for which hairstyles fit a face shape, but I can't really tell what my face shape is, and nothing seems to look good on me.

P.S. You look gorgeous in that avatar picture, Broken.~ The hairstyle suits you perfectly.

Yeah that was a tough part. When I get back home, working now (sort of), ill look to for the links I used. The best approach is to take a picture with your hair back and smiling , and another with a relaxed face. Because then you can map it easier on the screen.

http://www.dailymakeover.com/face-shape-quiz/quiz.php (http://www.dailymakeover.com/face-shape-quiz/quiz.php)  --> this link you actually have to register for the results. Of course u know there going to send you crapola with it. But it actually is pretty helpful, it asks basic questions.

http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/the-right-hairstyle-for-your-round-face-shape (http://www.thehairstyler.com/features/articles/hairstyles/the-right-hairstyle-for-your-round-face-shape) --> good site in general. Also in the Find Your Perfect Hairstyle section can give you a sample of ideas, I believe you also have to register for all the suggestions. But you can get a general sense.

http://www.taaz.com/makeover/virtual-makeover.html (http://www.taaz.com/makeover/virtual-makeover.html) --> this has a good Virtual Makeover.

I can't find the others I had before. But generally you want to be able to get a hairstyle that makes your face shape look more round if it's not already. Also If your thin on the top, you want more of a comb over style. And don't forget bangs are great to minimize the appearance of a brow bone. :)

EDIT:
There's also an app that helped me a little. It gives you some ideas with category filters. Android: Hairstyles Gallery by tattoos... It just shows pictures probably from google, but with certain filters on. Its not the best but it did help me decide.

Good lucky
Hugs :)

I love taaz!
you can also look here for face shape http://beauty.about.com/od/bestcutsbyfaceshap1/ss/Are-You-Round-Square-Long-Heart-Or-Oval.htm (http://beauty.about.com/od/bestcutsbyfaceshap1/ss/Are-You-Round-Square-Long-Heart-Or-Oval.htm)
you might want to try a bob, it's a good short feminine cut.

My suggestion is to find a killer LGBT-friendly hairstylist, hopefully one who is trans or has worked on their hair of transgirls.  I got the former and have had a crazy number of compliments on my hair.  You might have to spend some bank, but if they know what they are doing, their expertise is totally worth it!

You just need to grow your hair out... chin to  as close to shoulder length hair as your job will allow for you maam. Your face is an upside down triangle shape, btw.

*DO NOT TOUCH YOUR HAIR WITH CUTTING SHEARS FOR AT LEAST 8 MONTHS!!!* ... unless you want bangs.

Growing out hair is a real pain. ;D

My family's giving me a hard time (I'm still presenting as a male) because my hair is almost completely covering my ears by now, the hair on the back goes down to the small of my neck (down to the very edge), and the front reaches down to my nose (though I side-sweep them). I've always used to have short hair, that's why all the commotion. I just tell them I'm trying out new things. ;D And to mind their own biz.

And my hairstyle looks awful.

People never really gave me a hard time when I grew my hair out for the first time (that they've seen me grow it out). Hair has an awkward length stage but in the end it's worth it. Wait til it gets shoulder length and it hangs off your shoulders and does the little flip thing ... very annoying. I tended to make a big deal out of my hair in a positive way and everyone kinda caught on and said "it suits you!". I did get the occasional hippy comment but any "guy" that has long hair is going to get that. Just take care of it, that makes alot of difference.

You have a really nice face, and I think you'd look great with a messy look.  I say let it grow between 1.5" - 2" then deshevel your hair and sweep your bangs.  Use sea salt spray before hand to sustain a shape and also to add volume.  Maybe a short ponytail since it could technically be above the collar.

Great stuff, some nice looking short styles here! So many MtF types hide behind long hairdos which work for some but most women will tell you when you hit the 30's and 40's your not a young girl anymore and a shorter length [shoulder length max] is usually the rule. There are older women who refuse to age gracefully and wear their hair long and pretend to be still in their teens, not a good plan for TS folks because it only serves to draw unwanted attention to ones self.

If you can get your hair to at least this length, then you have quite a few options when it comes to styling it.

It's about 3 fingers long, perhaps to long for the messy look??

OH and Keaira I would kill for your hair :)

Dear, if you let it grow out, you will. It just takes time this is about a year's worth of growth with some trimming to keep it tidy. And to be honest, I don't Like that hairstyle on you, it's too short and does not help you look feminine. I've had that short of a haircut and it didn't work for me either. If you can grow some length to it then it opens up more styling options. And it doesn't have to be as long as mine either. I'll upload some old pictures and show you later. *hugs*

In this case, you can have your cake and eat it. It's just going to take some time, some playing in the mirror and research. But I know you can do it!

im more of a short hair nut. I LOVE shortish hair....not two short but a little above my shoulders.

So easy to upkeep and it breaks the mold and stereotype that all TG has to have long hair.

Im in a class right now...out of 25 girls, 3 have long hair. I guess im more of a mainstream person :P

I've had an interesting thing about long hair and short hair my whole (long) life. I've grown my hair long and cut it several times. At one time it was about to my elbows. An odd phenom is that when my hair has been longest I start finding women with short hairstyles more attractive. So, guess what I do? I cut my hair to a short women's style. Eventually I long for long hair again and the cycle continues.

I just started growing mine out In November and I intend to let it keep growing but I need a short style to use until then, as well as my wig.  I am almost ready to ditch the wig at least some of the time so any suggestions on a  good intermediate short hair style for someone who is growing it out and doesnt intend to keep it short would be great.

That's really a cute style you look great! My next comment is just a general observation, but it seems that an unwritten thing with cis women is that once you hit your mid-thirties long cascading hair is for the most part out and shoulder length is the max with shorter styles being in, something to consider when one wishes to fit in to the general female population better.

I had short hair my whole life growing up, i'm reading for growing it out long for once. But I do think I would like to find a shorter hairstyle eventually that will suit me and still allow me to pass. Long hair is just a lot more work. >.>

I tried a lot of short hair styles and I never found anything that looked good/feminine on my head/neck shape. I went to this shoulder length hair and everyone I know was like "Do NOT go back to that short hair look!" I'm 52 and I don't care if most women my age have short hair, it looks horrible on me :) Clearly YMMV on this but for me, I'm never gonna have short hair again.

I really couldn't relate to the pictures on Websites for working out my face shape.

I found it really hard to decide, so just stood in front of the bathroom mirror, pinned my hair back and quickly  drew around my reflection with an old lipstick.  That gave me a single line drawing to more easily compare to the on-site pictures.

I settled on my current short bob style before Christmas, and have had a lot of comments that it looks much better.

Karen.

I think there's nothing inherently unfeminine about the short hairstyle per se, it's all about how it is styled. Study men and women with short hair - it's styled very differently.

With short hair styles, it's also good to accessorize and wear more makeup in general.
