The country's national advertising regulator has been criticised by LGBTI groups for failing to understand the concerns of transgender people after it dismissed complaints over a controversial Libra tampon ad which it was suggested could incite prejudice against the transgender community.

In its decision, the Advertising Standards Board said that the ad "does not demean women who do not menstruate, nor does it demean or vilify transgender people and does not vilify men who dress as woman".
The Board however did admit that there was "no way of determining" whether the drag queen character was "representative of drag queens or transgender women".
Warren Talbot, general manager of the LGBTI Health Alliance, said that the decision to dismiss the complaints was "regrettable", particularly in light of the reasoning of regulators.

The National LGBTI Health Alliance has labelled an Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) decision approving a controversial Libra tampon advertisment for Australian audiences as "regrettable".
The ASB ruled that the ad, which features a drag queen in competition with a female in a women's bathroom, did not demean women who "do not menstruate", nor did it demean or vilify transgender people.
"[The advertisment] features a man dressed as a woman in a female bathroom environment, however, there is no way of determining whether they are representative of drag queens or transgender women," the ruling stated.

The ad was satirical. We need to move on.
We are at risk of toxic shock syndrome of the brain.
It doesn't matter whether the character was meant to be a drag queen. With so many people who lump drag queens and TS women in the same category, the message will always be the same: "If you were assigned male at birth, you will always me male no matter what."

Which I had said ever since the start on the issue, when "offended" people got their undies in a twist.
People need more hobbies in their lives.

I agree. Most people think like that already so making an ad and poking fun is naturally the next step, well, let them all have a
big laugh. ::)
