Has anyone here ever had spotted dick?
How is it?
Recipe (http://recipewise.co.uk/spotted-dick-pudding)
There is only one word to describe it - STODGY!
No, but I have a mole on my ... oh, never mind.
I've seen it in cans in some grocery stores over here. I've never tried it, and not just because I find the name unappealing. (I haven't tried sh!t on a shingle, either.) I don't like raisins or cinnamon, so this is something I'm unlikely to try.
Traditional British steamed pudding. Lovely with custard. Just don't eat it all the time. A politically correct idiot once tried changing the name to Spotted Richard on his work canteen menu. This did not go down well!
There is no way I can't get some of that and try it. By the way, check the "What are you eating" thread, I had S.O.S. last night! Hugs, Devlyn
You had me going here, I thought this might be some new type of STD! ;D

It's nice, but not as nice as

Some how, some way, I knew it would lead to this. :D

That's what we used to call creamed chip beef on toast
^^ Right, that's what I had! Nice looking dick, did you see all the ->-bleeped-<-gots that showed up as soon as it was unveiled? Hugs, Devlyn

:D
Truth be told, those ->-bleeped-<-gots look more appealing to me than that spotted dick.
(Oh, gods, did I actually just type that?)

You are going to get in trouble. ;)
What's more, you are going to get
me in trouble. :o

You too! ::)
You're right, Jamie. That was most unladylike of me. I'll stop now.
Why? It's all in good fun.

UK people will have to help.
What was the slang for Eccles Cakes?
I'm delving into the deep dark past of my memory here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgQfSVJl6Ng# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgQfSVJl6Ng#)
I hate the video and not a fan of whatever anime this is; the song is what is important...so maybe play it in the background, or something.
i couldn't find it anywhere else that I could link to it (well, at least easily)
I think it pretty much epitomizes the witty banter thus far in this thread...and it mentions spotted dick.
Yay for double entendres.
;D
But no, I have never had spotted dick.
Terrific Jason
I enjoyed that
I'll have to work on my poker face
Cindy
Benny Hill - My Garden Of Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frI9tVCA71s#)
for punning songs.
I do think Benny Hill is one of those unappreciated geniuses. Ok his humour was off target to many, but goddess he was an original and pushed the boundaries in a decade when we didn't know they could be pushed.
Thank You Pica Pica
Cindy (I'm not Ernie)
Please, people here are trying to choke!
Can someone find Ernie? by BH it was stupid and clever at the same time. My connections to Y-tube are not good.
It was a big hit here at the time.
Is this the one you were looking for Cindy?

Thanks kelly,
I'd forgotten how bad it was
I had left the UK before Kenny became big. Another incredible comedian, and putting this stuff together 5 days a week.
Jamie, you WERE warned about me...... by me! Hugs, Devlyn

Why? I am a lady. I have a reputation to uphold.
Or play down. I can't remember which
Why, I ask myself is this item not in the food department FGS? Since you are talking about PUDDING!!!
It always sounds like some advanced AIDS issue, stuff rotting and falling off, when ever I read that God awful title. Really!
Yeak!
Axélle
I'm not really a Benny Hill fan, except the songs.
"Doesn't that tickle?" That's what she's partial to! Hugs, Devlyn
"Have you ever had spotted dick?" No, but I have a dicked spot! Hugs, Devlyn
I never had it, but I've heard of it for quite awhile. I learned about it in the early 1980's by a local sports columnist visiting the UK. I used to get the old Andy Capp comics and a ->-bleeped-<-got was a cigarette "Hey bloke, you got a ->-bleeped-<-got?". We got a laugh from that.

Whenever there is a food thread I find myself wishing for a Susan's outreach in France, Italy, China, Mexico and Spain. You know, places with eatable cuisine. If you look up English Cuisine (English Restaurants) in the SF phone book (A Foodie City to be sure) you get exactly two, one prime rib place (run by a Japanese chief), that only serves the traditional prime rib dinner, and a Fish and Chips (run by Vietnamese) joint.
We have a few English restaurants here in Denver, one called Pints. Kidney pie, bangers and mash, Yorkshire pudding, etc on their menus. Also the Scottish haggis at the the Celtic meets. I make my own version of "bangers and mash" with the Polska Kielbasa.

I believe you are referring to a ->-bleeped-<- as a cigarette. ->-bleeped-<-gots are either a kind of unskinned offal sausage served in gravy or a bundle of sticks you put on the fire.
It works the other way too, in the US pants are trousers, in the UK pants are underwear. Whatever you do do not use the term Fanny Pack in the UK. I tne US this is a waist bag, in the UK a fanny is a ladies front bottom!
"Have you ever had spotted dick?"
Oh, just go away now already, will you! :-)

That is an important distinction.
I remember the first time I heard the American word 'fanny pack'... it was on the Simpsons and my mum burst out laughing. I was quite young at the time and had to ask her why!
Yeah, I've had spotted dick, it's quite nice actually, despite the name. (:

The last time I spotted Dick, he was running to catch a bus. That was in 1986 and I have not seen him since.
Genius! :D
We had our own version of Toad in the Hole when I was in Scouts. Just a slice of bread with a hole in the centre for frying an egg. Just realised how dubious the first sentence sounds now! ::)
Karen.

Hehehe Beverly, you are incorrigible!
I'm glad my thread let the double entendres run wild.
