When I first came here I often heard the phrase "getting clocked" or "being clocked" or something to do with clocked. At first, my initial definition of getting clocked was punching someone in the face. When I kept hearing about people on here getting clocked I thought to myself, "why are these people getting clocked and just taking it. If I was them I would clock them right back in the face....hard." It just didn't make sense to me at first until I realized that there was a possibillity that getting clocked didn't involve being punched in the face in this case so after looking up the word I went "OH Well that makes more sense!"
Just thought I'd share that....
Hah!
So you "clocked" it, - checked it out. Good :-)
Though for FtM to get clocked is not such a 'thing' really - usually you just taken to be butch. And then so what?!
It's a BIG issue for MtFs, cause that makes us a 'guy in a skirt' ... it sucks, and who ever takes note of a girl in pants?
Lucky, eh.

Not that this was a good situation, but I was driving in my local area and I got hit by another vehicle and pulled over on a side parking lot and a witness and the other driver and I all pulled into the local parking off the main road to inspect the damage. It was very pretty good damage although still safe to drive and everyone not hurt. But my saying is to say that the witness since I was dressed totally fem skirt, nice top, etc. totally kept calling me mam but the cop from my license new I was male but she called calling me she, her, mam, etc. I thought it was totally awesome! It was not good to have an accident by the other driver hitting me trying to pass me but being called a lady by a witness was totally thrilling and wonderful!
Lol Malachite. I'm glad you shared that. ;D
Less funny, I knew the word "passing" as "passing for white," and even knowing full well what it means to trans people, words are hard to unlearn.
:laugh: Oh man. That was what my stupid brain thought the first time I saw it. After a couple of times I had the 'ah-ha!' moment and realized that no, someone did not just punch that lady in the face, so I didn't need to get my hackles up.
A lot of phrasing on this forum confuses me though. I am not particularly on the up and up with internet slang, so I can't tell you how many abbreviations I have had to look up. When I first saw FAAB, I saw FAB as fabulous, and I was confused as why it was a bad thing and made no sense in the context. Once I typed it into google and got the meaning, I felt really silly, but at least I got a free laugh.
You're absolutely not the only one who is wondering all the time and thinking what the hell do they mean with this.
Particulairy the way to shorten the things, like FAAB, LMAO or GG and so on.
For someone from a not English speaking country, it's hard sometimes, but I'm willing to learn.
Oh, FAAB can also be AFAB = Assigned Female At Birth...
the way I was TOLD, - when it's uncool to use the words female, woman, girl etc.
There are no Trans-boys tb?... but Trans-girl tg seems just fine, and so on.
LOL, laugh out loud, - lots of love, ... etc.
So long you don't get clocked, eh :-)

I didn't get "clocked" myself at first. By it's usage and being accustomed to watching BBC shows on the tele I knew what the poster meant. Where I come from (and being pre-jurassaic) we called it being "Read" which makes a lot more sense.
Read = Bad
Clocked = Black Eye = Very very bad
It's happened to me many times. I just take it in stride.
:)
@Axelle "who ever takes note of a girl in pants?" That made me laugh :D Though it would seem to be pretty scary for an FtM to get clocked in the Men's room :o
@lindsey26 way to find a positive thing in a not-so-positive situation :)
@Felix I agree some things are just very hard to unlearn.....I still register "getting clocked" as taking a punch initially. :D
@JoanneB Getting "read" does make a little bit more sense to me than getting clocked.
@Ayden and Annette I'm glad I'm not alone in that. The phrases can get confusing for me too and I didn't know that "FAAB" exsisted as slang. GG=Good Grief?
@gennee that's a good attitude to have. :) I would probably be hurt if I got clocked many times.
