Title: Deciding to move ahead with things...and insurance questions.
Post by: Meeples on February 10, 2012, 07:40:12 PM
I've struggled with private gender identity issues for a good number of years now, and only recently have I finally decided that at the very least, I'd like to see a professional about it. I figure that I'm 22 now, so if I'm going to do it, I'd best do it as early as possible to get the best results, no...? My current problem is that I've graduated from college and am no longer on the family health plan, and nor do I have one from work. In other words, I simply have no health insurance at the moment.

Now, I do have quite a good amount of money squirreled away. Mid five figures, or thereabouts. So I could likely pay for much of the early things out of pocket...but I'd really like to try and look into insurance first, both for GID troubles and general health care. I live in SE Wisconsin, closely bordering Illinois. Would anyone have suggestions as to what companies I ought to look at when it comes to TG health care for this area, or suggestions as to particular psychiatrists or professionals I ought to look into? Any help would be muchly appreciated!

You're very close to where I live (across the border in NE Illinois).

Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with what insurance is good for transgender individuals. I only recently got insurance myself. Around here a lot of different places seem to be in the network of Blue Cross/Blue Shield if that helps.
