While I am NOT a fan of transgender being in the DSM, these changes IMHO are very positive, especially the name change from Gender Identity Disorder to Gender Incongruity.
Also they left out the nonsense of basically saying for MTF "If you didn't want to play with dolls, you aren't trans" and vice versa.
This is clearly a step in the right direction, IF we have to be included for whatever reasons.
My therapist and I went through the requirements for GID in the DSM-IV for kicks one day.. According to the DSM-IV, I'm not a transsexual.. According to my therapist (and the WPATH SoC's), I am.. And I certainly feel a whole lot better for having started my transition..
The proposed changes to the DSM-V are a positive step though..
I don't think it's good enough, but at least it's progress and not regression. And kelly according to any edition of the DSM we're all wackaloons who should be heavily medicated and monitored, depending on how close you look and whose opinion you accept. :laugh:
