Hi my name is Gauge. I came out about a year ago and lost everything my job, my home, and my savings accounts due to my family. My family was my life we all worked together in the family business and shared everything. I never imagined my parents would throw me away and turn their backs on me. It has been really difficult probably more so because of the hormones. My only silver lining is that my lawyer got some of my money back so I might be able to have my surgery. Financially everything is very different from dealing with NYC galleries to now working at Giant in the bakery department. I was a professional retoucher in my family's business also I did all the giclee prints and gallery wraps. I really hope someday I will be able to do what I was trained for. All in all I joined this forum at the bequest of a fellow member and friend looking for input and support in dealing with my transition.
Hi Gauge, welcome to Susans! You kind of get family forced on you, and they like to set conditions. But this family at Susans is one we all joined by choice, and no one here sets any conditions on anyone else. Welcome home. Hugs, Devlyn

Hey fellow newb ;D
All that upheaval and change sound really tough - is there any way your family can come to their senses? TBH you're braver than me - im still in stealth and havent told anyone. Like yours, my family is really close so I'm not sure how they would react, but hopefully they'll be ok.
Hopefully you can get some support from the lovely people here, who on the whole, seem super duper (im contractually obliged to say that :P). Youre a wee bit ahead of me in terms of transistion and I envy you for it! I hope all goes well and if you ever need a chitchat (or a blether in scottish terms) then please feel free to contact me :)

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's. The rest of the Australian Mafia should be along soon. ;D I'm so sorry to hear of your family issues. It's not an easy road to take at the best of times, however you seemed to have got over some major rough patches, early in your journey. Hopefully the rest of it will have more than silver lining for you.
It's these events that test our resolve and commitment, and serve as character building stage in the formation of the new you. Like any good concert piano, it doesn't perform well until the strings are stretched and put under a bit of pressure. But it sure sounds good.
And yes; we are family here, by choice. And we are here for each other ..... along a journey that can take us to places and experiences unimaginable. Hope to hear more of you in the coming months. Don't hesitate to jump in any time and join the conversation. In the meantime, be safe, well and happy

I like the sounds of that where can I join up? I would love to see Australia it is one of the places when ever I see it makes me want to be there. I guess that comes from living on the East Coast with these cold winters. Now I am cold again.

It has that romantic charm about it. Sizzling summers, balmy nights, hunky surf life savers; you know how it goes. I know my great great great grandparents saw something in it too. They even stole a piece of toast in order to jump the queue and come out on the first boat, all those years ago. They obviously loved the place at first sight and chained themselves down to a local convict gang and refused to go back. I'm pleased they did, but they could have left the key behind at least. You are most welcome here, anytime you like. No problem in picking you up from the airport. First stop would have to be a harbour cruise on Sydney harbour of course. Then the Adelaide girls would love to show you around.
Never fear of where you are, Devlyn, our very own Charge d'Affaires, complete with Visa, lives very close to you and will no doubt come by soon with an awesome Bostonian chilly welcome. Tell me does the East coast ever warm up at all? I'm considering visiting Philadelphia, New Hope in fact, for a 'nip and tuck', soon, and would prefer not to be rugged up like an Eskimo. Us hot weathered Aussies don't travel too well in the cold. Except for Karen, but then again she is the next stop out of the Antarctic. 'Tassie' slipped away from the mainland during the Jurassic period. And all the Kings horses and all the Kings men, could never get it back again. (Oh !! dear Lawd!! I may have doubled up on my meds this morning. Or 'E' has taken a virulent hold.)
Hope some warm weather comes by for you soon, you're looking a bit blue at the moment.
