or Peky...?
So, it is like all my Friends and colleagues know I am female, I have told them I am not "John" but "Peky.' I even sign my emails as "Peky," yet it is like the keep calling me "John." No I do not look like "John," and hardly ever get "read."
They are all very supportive, the girls accept me as one of them, and the boys, well they do treat me as a woman; so ,I am bewilder why they cannot call me Peky?
Have any of you have experience a similar situation, any advice ?
Peky
The advice is to give it more time. A LOT of time. More time than you are probably thinking when I say "to give it more time."
You have been going by the name of John all your life. It's the name your parents gave you, it's the name you were raised with, it's the name you identified with until you made the decision to change it.
You may be ready to change your name but others are not as quick to follow. It has nothing to do with not understanding or how close minded someone is (even tho that can be the case) because even the most opened person will problems with it for awhile.
The best advice I can give you is to correct them everytime they do it and don't expect them to turn around as quickly as you want them to. The same rule applies to pronouns.
I agree with Annah, I would take her advice, and then add a dash more time for the forgetful and stubborn people! Hugs, Devlyn
Alot of it is habit
lol that was a thread resurrection!

lol that was a thread resurrection!
A lot of that has been going on around here lately.
i noticed it too....usually with 4 word replies
mine was 5 words! lol
Well, I did follow the advice of our young seminarist, I specifically placed a: "my friends call me peky" just below my signature, and well things have improve a lot -thanks Annah!
i would say just be nice and correct them. they will catch on after a little while
I think name is an easy thing to learn and call someone by even if there is a hiccup every so often. I think He/She is much harder, even for us. I sometimes accidentally call someone a he, and usually feel real bad when I do.
So I feel if they keep doing it day in and day out than yea something is wrong.
you must took awhile to go through all the forum pages to resurrect this thread
So, yeah, after so many months I hardly ever heard anybody calling me by my old name, save one exception, and that is when somebody gets mad with me. I do not know if they do unconsciously or consciously, and at this point in my life FMDIDNGD.
Nobody really had trouble with my new name (similar to my old one) but they do have problems with pronouns at school.
