Title: Heart Problems
Post by: BrokenCode on March 01, 2012, 10:52:39 PM
Hi everyone. I was just curious about a few things that is related to Heart Problems. I was watching the news the other day and they were talking about Heart Attack Symptoms for women. This got me thinking, well do I look for female symptoms or male symptoms. I know there are some common symptoms for both, but I was just a little curious. As well if there are any other diseases that have different symptoms for male or female. So I'm asking does anyone know this?

Also I had another issue related to Heart problems. Say if your having heart problems and your taking HRT. What are your options for continuing with HRT. I mean if your taking the pill, should you switch on injections, like will that help? Just another curious question.

Well the reason why I ask this, is because I do have Heart Disease "M.V.P." (I wish it meant Most Valuable Player. lol.). But that comes and goes and its something I will always have to live with. I But lately I couldn't tell if I'm having pain in my chest from that or my boobs are growing(It feels like the boob. lol). So another curious question, does anyone have any sharp pain every once in a while on there boob? Like I'm thinking its the growing process because they have been getting bigger.

Thank you all.

You have an increased chance of heart disease on HRT. This can be particularly related to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). If you get pains, cramp like, in your calves and particularly if they are also painful to touch, call an ambulance. Other symptoms are much the same, possible shortness of breath, tingling in the arms, either or both. sharp pain in the upper back , pain in the chest, dizziness, blurring of vision, loss or stumbling of speech, sudden roaring in the ears. All of these are high alerts and you need an ambulance, you do not need a drive to the ER, you do not walk to the ER, or catch public transport. You need an Ambulance.

MVP itself should not, as far as I'm aware, and this is personal opinion only, be affected by HRT. Obviously your anxiety levels may well be affected that may be reflected in your concerns. Sudden chest pain is common in MVP but if there is an increase above what you normally feel, and more regularly, then that is a concern, and seek treatment. MVP tends to be Familial, and it can help to see how your female relatives with the condition have 'travelled'

The side affects of HRT are not, as far as I know, and again PO, on the heart itself. They are more on blood coagulation, thrombotic conditions rather than heart disease. But obviously there are links.

Do talk to your endocrinologist and treating doctor. I suspect you would be in their eye sights anyway.

As I said these comments are personal and are not professional opinion.

I do fully agree with Cindy.
Beside that MVP comes in varying degrees, from mild to severe.
Some people never notice, they have MVP.
Maybe this website is helpfull for you.

Here's the good news, Harley:

Mitral Valve Prolapse is usually not a life-threatening condition.  A Cindy suggests, there is an increased chance of throwing a clot; however, proper medication will minimize that risk.  If the condition is severe enough, valve replacement is an option.  (But, trust me, you don't want to get you chest cracked!)

I know of at east one other poster (Axelle) who has coronary disease.  Both she and I have had by-pass surgery.

I take Plavix and "baby" aspirin each day.  I am also on a prescription statin, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, an ARB, and a diuretic.  Additionally I take fish oil (omega 3) supplements, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, folic acid, alpha lipoic acid, selenium, and chromium picolinate - all available over-the-counter.

So I had to carefully consider possible drug interactions and complications associated with HRT.  Consequently, I was given a low dose 17 beta estradiol patch (to minimize DVT potential and additional load on the liver), as well as a change in the diuretic I was using, away from spironolactone.

You should talk over your treatment regime, if any, with a cardiologist.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Yeah I had MVP pretty serious when I was younger. It usually comes back with strenuous workouts. But this was even prior to HRT.

I was just curious because I was getting pain in my left boob, sharp pain ever since HRT. Its only every once in a while too. Like growth spurts.  But my boobs are growing, so I was thinking its that. I didn't know if that pain is normal?

Thanks everyone. I will contact my doctor.

I get some pain in the girls as well and they are tender so something hitting them can be quite a pain. I do get some random sudden pain in them I put it down to growth. Wish they would grow a damn sight quicker and larger.

If you can do strenuous workouts it sounds as if the valve is working pretty good.

But as you say keep in the Doc loop.
