Title: First Meeting
Post by: Ashazti on March 18, 2012, 11:44:38 AM
Yay!  I went to my first support group meeting in the city on Friday night and it was so great!  8)  I was so afraid to go, not really sure why... maybe cuz it was such a big step for me.. and well at the time I wasn't sure who would all be there and was worried about Transhate after reading that one thread on the forums.. but it was just all Transgender at the meeting, all MTFs and one intersex.  It was very relaxing, we laughed, we shared... it was great! I can't wait to go back next month.. I just wish they met more often!  ;D  It was so nice to have people like me to talk to in person, to be friends with and generally to feel not alone.

I'm happy that you enjoyed your time out. Support groups can be a great help and it helped me tremendously.

Thanks!  8)

I've actually been thinking about moving back into the city to be closer to this group, therapy and my new friends... it's going to get expensive going back and forth for sessions and meetings... so I think it might be a good idea. I wanted to wait till my divorce was all said and done first... but I really considering going anyways.

Glad it went well.  My support group meetings are very variable in numbers who attend.  Being around people in a similar situation is a great way to get over any Internalised Transphobia.  It makes you realise that you really are normal after all,  if you have only really  accepted it intellectually before.

Hugs.  Karen.

Congratulations. Doing that for the first time was a big step for me too.
