Are there any operations that can remove around 1ft from total height? For example, removing part of the tibia and fibula.
I am 6'7 and I feel very bad.
It is possible to remove part of the femur. But I doubt it will be something as whooping as one foot. More like half a foot, max, if you ask me.
The operation is not approved in most industrialised countries. It must be done in faraway places.
The operation leaves you unable to stand for weeks, if not months, and carries a risk of permanent aftereffects. You might need reeducation, too.
Above everything, the operation leaves most patients looking unnatural, since their thighs are way too short compared to their lower legs and torso.
It's your choice, but I really don't think it's worth it. To go through all this risk, possibly look weird in the end, all that to go from "super tall" to "very tall"... I really don't recommend it. Being tall sucks, but if you're skinny, you can probably get away with it. Some people even find it attractive.

This was about removing height, not adding height. o:
A was writing about removing height by removing part of the femur.

Wouldn't it be going from tall to short though?
And she said being tall sucks.
Well yeah.. i mean the OP said that they feel bad because they're 6'7"
They don't want to get taller.
What A was getting at is that if the operation will only remove 6" from your height, and if you're 6'7", you'd go from "super tall" (i.e. very, very tall) to still "very tall" - you'd still be over 6', so it might not be worth it if your goal is to be a more normal height for a woman.
There's nothing in there that I can see about getting taller - what is it you think says that?
Oh, and as a woman who's 6'3", I agree that being tall can sometimes suck :(.
I think Joey misunderstood. I was in no way talking about getting taller. o.o

I've tried to look for it as well. Some say that HRT related muscle-reducals might cut off cm or two off, though most outright say no (as height obviously comes from bones, which, unfortunately in our cases, are there to stay).
It's possible to cut femur, I think it was ~7cm absolute maximum. Tibia and fibula can also be sawed a bit, obviously less than femur though. I didn't find any major medical risks that A mentioned, but if you were to remove larger parts you're definately ending up looking unnatural, and probably re-education to walking would be necessary as well.
And about it being done in industrialized countries? Well, I know mine does it, but only to one leg, if your feet are too uneven. So I would guess that some private clinics could do it, though I suspect that not only it would be far too costly, you'd also look more natural as supertall.
However if someone actually has an idea, I, too, would love the idea of being smaller (and I'm just 6'1"). ^^
I just realized that I did the conversion from cm to in wrong. I'm actually 5'10. Is this still too tall?

Lmao.
How could you confuse 6ft 7 inches with 5ft 10 inches?

I can only measure in centimeters and I had the wrong conversion number. :P
You want to get radical surgery to chop off leg bones... because you are a couple inches over the average hight for girls in your country (not the world, in lithuania you are about average for women)??
Also, what happened to the group of black guys that attacked you because you were trans? I had pictured you were already transitioned and dressing in female clothing... but then you posted a picture and you are completely male presentation (even an open shirt and short hair and no feminizing attempts?)....and you posted it in the "Do I pass" thread??
If you are actually trans, I think you need to slow down and start thinking a bit more.

No i am not already transitioned. When I was attacked it was around the 4th time I have gone out in female clothing, it was because I felt very bad that day. The picture is a couple of months old. I need to post a newer one but my camera isn't working right now.

So, you are in an environment which you know is very intolerant of trans people... and go alone dressed in female clothing while still being read as male to a place you know is filled with younger and more hostile people?....
Uhmm.... you definitely aren't making life easy for yourself.

There are a lot of really tall women...check out the WNBA (http://www.wnba.com/) (in the US).
No matter what, you're not ever going to be a 5'4" dainty l'il flower...neither am I (6' here). Even if you did do a surgery that reduced your height, there are *SO* many problems with it...you will most likely regret it, considering time, cost, effort expended, with so little return.
imho
Etrina: I meant doing it when there is no real physical problem. I know many countries (most of them, I think, actually) perform it for such purposes, but from what I know, people go to obscure Asian countries to get it.
And Zoey, 5'11 sure is above average, and quite uncomfortable if you ask me, but it's really not that huge. You know, some model agencies only accept girls over 6 feet tall... And models are generally regarded as beautiful (even though I don't share the opinion, but that's unrelated).
I really don't think it's that tall. I mean, about 5-10 % women are your height or taller, I'd guess. It's not a catastrophe. If you moved to Japan, yeah, maybe it'd be a problem, but in an average population, I'm pretty sure you'll be all right. All you need is work on your self-confidence.
Oh please.
Let me get straight to the point here, and I am sorry if I come out as being rude. It is a bit late and I have a few things that must be said and this point must come across for all involved with this height issue.
I am about 5'10'' tall. I am actually 1,81 meter tall, or 181 cms. This has never had any influence on my passability at all, and I often run into women who are taller than I am. I wear my heels, I wear my dresses and I wear my spaghetti straps tops, sometimes I even go out without makeup when I am in a rush and I pass. Sometimes, though not always, I still pass after presenting my ID with a male name on it, because there is no gender marker here in Brazil.
There are other things you tall girls should be worrying about. First off, drop this insane surgery because it is not necessary. Just don't do it and save the money for therapy, because most transwomen need therapy to accept the issues we face. Begin training your voice to sound feminine and look around for a endo to begin your HRT. If you don't have a stable job, get one while you are at it and I almost forgot, search around for where you want to do laser for facial hair removal.
Find friends too and try to keep your family supportive.
This is what must be done and what you should worry about Zoey. You should not worry about being around my height, because I am about as tall as you and I pass and I even do things that make me look taller than that, such as wearing heels. And yes, I wear heels commonlym in everyday bussiness. Being smaller won't suddenly make you pass, because there is no passing magic potion or magic surgery. Passing is about the whole, the whole of you. Because you either are a woman to people or you arent, so it is the whole package. Follow the correct steps to pass and you will manage sooner or later, keep looking for magical fixes and you are certain to find a charlatan who will abuse of you.
I know plenty of women who are 5'10!
I don't think twice when I see a taller woman on the street.
I think that surgery sounds really painful but I don't know much about it, but honestly 5'10 is not radically tall. I have a friend who is 6'2 and she even wears heels! I know it's easier said than done, but try not to fixate on it. (:
you worried about your height and your only 5'10 ? thatss insane im 5'11 and 3/4s so basicly 6 foot and i love my height! id love to have narrow shoulders and wider hips for a more feminine overall physique but i wouldnt want to be any taller or shorter . remember most female supermodels is desired for them to be very tall 6 foot etc
and why aim to be a " average " woman when you can be better than average . different/ unique is better and more attractive than just being another boring/ standerd face in the crowd
I don't get this obsession in the trans community over height either. Here is a clue people, why do you think shorter girls wear 4 inch heels? Being tall is NOT a bad thing. OK if you were 6'5"+ maybe but I'm 5'11-6' tall and see plenty of younger women taller than me. I wore 2 inch heels today and I'm sure no one clocked me. Now most of the older women are shorter it seems but this in and of itself isn't going to make you unpassable. Like Bird said it's the whole package, clothes, your style, how you move, and mainly your voice from my experience. Get on HRT, get your voice right and stop freaking out over this height nonsense. Would someone seriously section their leg bones to try to make themselves a few inches shorter thinking this would make them pass? O.o I guess this seems as odd to me as the people who want a rib removed..
When I was in college, I knew a ciswoman who was 6' tall and a tomboy to boot. (i.e. she tended to wear flannel shirts, jeans, and cowgirl boots most of the time and was almost never seen in a skirt or dress) She never had any trouble getting a date and was actually quite popular with the other college guys, who were almost all shorter than her by quite a bit.
Tall can be womanly. Tall can be beautiful. It's not what you have, it's what you do with it.
For myself, I like the petite look and I'd love to be around 5'0" to 5'2" (I'm 5'6" - which is pretty average for women around here), but I'm not about to mess around with my leg bones. I think the drawbacks way outweigh the potential benefits.
I'd be happy to be a few inches shorter - because I'd have a few less dints in my scalp :).
I was 6'2" by the time I was 12, so I got used to being horribly visible and self-conscious, and it took a long time to get happy with my height even after everyone else my age caught up. These days, I regularly see young women as tall as me. Actually I would still sometimes be happy to be shorter, but being serious, that's mainly because there's a lot more choice in clothes for average-height women.
My best friend ("normal woman") is 5'11"... and she LOVES to wear heels when she goes out. She actually really loves that she is tall (and gets hit on ALL the time). Being short is definitely not a factor for being a woman.

I suppose it depends what country and area you live in? I'm 5'7" and I'm taller than most women I see in the area of the United Kingdom I live in. The average height of women around here is about 5' 5". Many women here are very small boned and petite with very small hands and feet. I look like an Ox in comparison.
But I think in America people are generally taller, both male and female! So I'd probably look small over there?
There seem be a lot of tall women in my part of Devon :).

Yes maybe Padma? I've noticed taller women in the west part of England and in London. But I bet on average there are many small women too? I'm in Scotland and I seem to be taller than the average female and I'm 5' 7" tall.

Same where I live in the north of England. I once worked with a girl who was easily as tall as me (6'2") and often wore heels to make her taller.
I think part of it is owning your height. People often stand out more if they feel self-conscious and deliberately try not to. That seems more noticable for some paradoxical reason (maybe body language or something). Those who own their height, and get on with living life... well, they're the ones who usually aren't given a second glance. It's a natural thing, so just be natural and people seem to react accordingly.

Nope, that's not too tall at all. I'm 5'10" and I'm biologically female. :) It seems like a good height and many people always comment on it and say how they wish they had my height. Yes, it can be hard to find pants, but some places have big and tall stores or sections so it's not too terribly bad.
On the heels comments: I loved to wear heels and I did for the longest time! I can't wear heels now due to having had surgery on my toes so wearing heels sucks royally now, but I miss them.
why wish to remove height?
all the most beautiful women are tall, i am the other end of height down near the ground and i would of always wanted to be much taller.
If it is a passing thing too, there is a senórita a genetic senórita who live 2 door form my workplace around 6.5 she looks like a girl nothing out of the normal
also when i have srs, i was surrounded by very tall senórita's all getting their own surgery...never once did i think one looked anything but female, i was in awe if i am truthful and actually helped me work on my own apperances much more to the point i now melted away into the crowd
we all desire something we can never have at times, make the best of what you possess now and you will find most often it was more then enough to be happy
