Title: Tomboy
Post by: Susan on March 18, 2012, 07:35:55 PM
A family moves into a new neighborhood, and a 10-year-old named Laure deliberately presents as a boy named Mikhael to the neighborhood children. It is heavily implied that Mikhael is a closeted transgender boy. This film follows his experiences with his newfound friends, his potential love interest, Lisa, his younger sister and his parents. It focuses in on the significance of gender identity in social interaction from an early age, the difficulties of being transgender and young, and how Mikhael navigates these in the background of childhood play and love.

that was my biggest issue. the mom was so evil to him when she found out.
i really loved how the little sister wen a long with it and helped him out. my favorite part tho was when he made the bathing suit i thought it was funny.
it is a complete must see though.

I loved it. Also, it's in French. Can't go wrong with French films.

Way back in November (or earlier even) last year, I was browsing Apple Trailers on my break between classes when I came across it and immediately knew I needed to watch it when it came out. I hadn't even accepted my trans identity at that point, but LGBT films and documentaries have always been my thing.

Basically, I'd recommend it to everyone, it's good.

I loved the movie, until the ending, which I thought was confused (why the smile at the end and so on). The mother was brutal (and more brutal than she appeared to be elsewhere). However, I loved the scenes until then-- the kid watching and then trying out more male behavior, the relationship with the sister, and the whole swimming episode.

Really short film. I thought the relationship between Mikhael and his sister was adorable. I wanted to wring the mother's neck, lol. Ending was abrupt but sweet.

Loved that movie. It might have been discussed on that forum already but "My Life in Pink" is also a great French movie

Beautiful film. Disappointing ending. Adorable sibling relationship. Almost completely devoid of dialogue.

I actually came out to my wife after a fight about this film. She insisted that Mickäel was not trans, I disagreed, things snowballed from there.
