Title: Susans seem broken
Post by: vanna on March 27, 2012, 04:10:14 AM
I have been haivng lots trouble even opening the forum page or any other for that matter. I see the ideas of using a proxy by another post that has been removed but it is impossible to open my pm and i can only view but proxy is the only way the sit opens up outside of the homepage

it is the same cloud page 505 error over and over
is this an issues with susans or are some of us pehaps banned with out knowing??

this has been going on for days and day and now seems impossible to come here?

They've been having this problem since November. It was really bad in January and Feb. It was ok for 2 weeks and then it's going all crazy again.

It's a bandwidth issue.,...for the most part.

I have had to use proxies to load the site at all, otherwise I cannot get it to load no matter how many times I try... so it's not just you!

I had always come in through a link to the main forum page, but that page stopped coming up for me. After awhile I realized I could come in through other pages. I started entering through through the main Susan's Place page and haven't had any more problems.

Others are having problems as well

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,118016.0.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,118016.0.html)

and cloudflare seems to be at the bottom of the troubles

503 Service Temporarily Unavailable
cloudflare-nginx

What proxies can be TRUSTED not to record usernames and passwords?

I tried writing to Cloudflare and they kindly replied:

Subject: Is this correct?

Hi Jill,

Thank you for contacting CloudFlare.

susans.org currently has over 750 concurrent users. To keep the service running smoothly for all users, we limit the maximum simultaneous connections to 750 for a single domain. This is why you're seeing that error.

This cannot be altered or overridden. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Now that I have finally managed to get in, using a proxy server suggested by our own dear Cindy, I don't think this is actually true. The number of visitors here is not 750.

I confess I did get a bit worried that it was only me. OK, I know that sounds terribly self centred, but I'm an introverted, neurotic, middle aged women who spends most of her life living a lie. Sometimes I need to think about me. :D

I think the problem is a bit more serious than simply cloudflare. They claim to exist to stop DDOS attacks, yet this sounds exactly like just that.

i come here during low traffic times mostly when most the susan population are in bed so this 750 figure seems verry wrong to me

i am unable to log at all without a proxy i see suggested, i do no like to this way but it is all that works to gain access to a place i have been coming for a long time.

I am guessing staff know more but cloud seem to be wrong in their figures, atleast to me

well.....if it is true..its not true for this site.

I have no problems getting in during the middle of the day but I cannot even remotely get on like at 3 am.

750 concurrent users is kinda high but for a website like this, it really is a low number. Im telling ya....put up a donation icon but nooooo ...no one listens to me lol.

This was horrible, I was offline for at least a week because of this and I felt deprived. >.>

I almost made an account on Laura's Playground but I don't know anyone there, so it didn't feel homely, lolz. Plus their layout is uglier.

After having no significant problems getting onto Susans through this afternoon, suddenly I got a Google or Firefox "Attack Site" warning for www.susans.org (https://www.susans.org).  I have both virus protection and malware protection for my computer, and my scans were clean.  So, I don't know what happened.

When the warning came up again, I clicked on the "This is not an attack site" button.
