I searched back through the threads from around the time when I submitted the application.
So, to come up to speed - I had applied in early February for a job which had been a rather ideal fit for me in terms of getting hired in this little town. It was a position as a case manager for a charity which, among other things, provides assistance to folks in poverty with utility bills and such. The job is the only person in the office (you supervise some van drivers) and it's in a position where the clients can't afford to be reluctant to do business with you.
So anyway, I was enthused about it but they took until last week to do interviews and they interviewed at least 11 women (there were that many there when I interviewed - all told to be there at the same time) for the position. I gave my best interview but i had no way to know what the other candidates brought to the table.
Welp. Heard back today from the job interview. I'll give you three guesses. And you won't need but one (since I didn't start this post with "Yipee!" right?) Still, they were decent enough to send out a letter which pretty much never happens to me rather than leave me hanging so I'm not bad-mouthing them. i have no reason to assume I was mistreated.
Sucks though. I can't afford to go get my prescription for my metformin renewed (hopefully the free clinic will do that again Saturday), I still can't buy the gas to go to Tupelo five times to work off that damned ticket (which itself was a result of not having enough money) and the next cycle of bill paying (starting next week) is going to be MIGHTY damned interesting.
*sigh*
I need a job!
Did they tell you why you didn't get it? Sometimes it helps to try and find out if there was anything they felt could have been improved on during your interview, so you can learn from it and sparkle the next time. If not, and you were just unlucky, then you can take that as a positive since eventually your luck will change. :)
*hugs*
And hey, at least you got an interview, hon. That's something else positive to take away from it. The number of application forms and CV's employers go through for their vacancies nowadays, even getting interviews can be rarer than rocking horse poop. Just hang in there and try not to get too dispirited.
Don't allow yourself to become discouraged or show that you are desperate during the next interview. As Sephirah said, at least you had an interview. HR people are absolutely the worst and most ill mannered, thoughtless people, they must stay awake at night thinking of ways to tramples on people's self esteem, because most of them won't answer inquiries or acknowledge that they even received your resume. So getting your foot in the door is a good start! Hang in there lady!
Sorry you didn't get the job! I know times are tough. Sometimes I complain about my job but I'm blessed to have one.
A good attitude to have in these times!

They didn't up front, but since I had to immediately turn around and apply for assistance (I have an electric bill set for cutoff if not paid by Monday and it may be too late for them to turn around a check - I'm rather in a panic about that.
But I digress. Since I was right back in their after they made a hire I was able to see who they selected, and chat with her a bit about how I waited to ask for help until the job was filled and so forth.
turns out the woman had done a very similar sort of job before so her learning curve was much less steep then it would have been for me (and presumably the rest)
I really can't complain and they gave no hint that it was a discriminatory choice.

It's the only interview I've had anywhere except Wal-Mart and employment agencies (who interview literally everybody) in 2 years.
Seems more like a fluke, really.
But if they don't get that bill for me I could conceivably be in the dark by mid-week. The bill is about twice what the total of all the money I have in the world comes to right now. Even if I did manage to pay it I'd be on foot by the end of the week unless something unexpected happens.
I'm dead serious when I say i'd turn tricks right now if there was a market for it.
