does it feel like the name Topher has an upper social age limit on how long one should use it to refer to themselves?
I waffle on how I feel about this.
opinions, please, anyone?
I don't really associate it with other "young people names" like Kaden or Logan - so I don't know. It's not a name that I've heard often so it could be for any age.
I like the name Topher.

I read somewhere that transfolks often make the mistake of picking a current trendy name --- which wasn't a name choice when at the time they were born.
So, I went and looked at popular names during the year I was born.
However, that being said --- if you like it and feel comfortable using it -- who cares -- it's your life and you probably have spent far too long trying to confirm to society norms anyway --- so do what you feel
This is my first time hearing the name "Topher" so no.

I picked and changed my name and then after all that decided to check out the lists (I was having name anxieties) and my name (Andrew) is number 6 for the year I was born, so I figure I made a good choice. I just wanted a solid male name that couldn't be construed as something else.
That said I agree with what Robert said "if you like it and feel comfortable with it, who cares" don't don't let others bias your feelings of your name. FWIW, I feel that Topher is a name that could be used from infancy to old age.
Examples of trendy names you should not choose if you're older than 12 are: Jayden, Aiden, Kaden, Kade, Jayce, Skylar plus any variations in spelling.
Topher is completely fine and sounds acceptable with any age group.

I wouldn't call Kade a trendy name, besides, I went to grade school with a kid named Kade.

I do hear an awful lot of FtM's using 'trendy' names, but who am I to talk when my middle name (That I picked for myself) is Aiden, probably the number one chosen name for FtM's (I swear it, walk into a room of FtM's, yell that name and you have the whole group looking up at you) Anyway, I don't see the 'problem' with that. I know two guys named Darius and neither are black. They're both Navajo. One's 7 years old and the other's in his mid to late 20s. I think it can be perceived more as a Judeo-Christian name. King Darius is the one that sent Daniel into the lion's den.

you should pick whatever name you like.
you might think some general things thought like;
should it be a casual or an unusual name?
would it be a name with more pronoucing and if yes which one should I go with or prefern?
should it be long or shourt?
unisex or all male/female?
those kind of things, but beside that just take one you like and feel fits you, if your nervous about using it try use it around certain people to begin with, I used my name with a few people on net and IRL before I got it change officially, you can always say its some kind of nickname"
I dated a guy named Christopher and he was certainly called Topher more often than Chris. He's in his thirties. I like the name.

am i the only one who really dislikes these names? without offending anyone...... theyre all so trans cliche..... id worry a name such as the above would render my passing bcos personally i relate all these names to FTMs
i just prefer more classic names but each to their own
off topic slightly... but ya @ op ive never heard the name topher before and i dont really have an opinion on it if you like it then just go for it

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't dislike those names, I just haven't heard any but Aiden and Skylar. I learned Aiden at trans meetings in the last couple years and I heard Skylar a ton in the late nineties when I was pregnant and trying to decide on a name for my kid.
When I think "Topher," I immediately conjure up "gopher." As in, the animal. :-\
But I would consider it a fairly age-limited name.
I know a trans guy who chose a name that I've ONLY ever seen for girls. I guess he wanted something unusual and didn't realize. Or maybe he just liked it. Likes it.
If you like Topher, you can change your name to Christopher and introduce yourself as Topher, can't you? Or is that not an attractive option?
just sharing my story, i chose a name (Tyler) i've liked since i was a kid and that i had always been fond of cause i didnt want to get caught up in the "trendy" names. but it shouldnt really matter what other people think, personally i like the name topher.
woah literally just looked up popular baby names during the year i was born and Tyler is #2 on one list :o i had no clue!

Even though it exists in the general population and in earlier years, it seems disproportionately chosen among trans people and kids born after the year 2000.
Had no idea the name I chose was on the top 200 male baby names of 1990 - but the name was only 1 percent of babies. Do I care? Not really. I like the name.
Never heard of that name before! so i don't think of it as a new or old name!!
