Title: Going to call the endo tomorrow...
Post by: fleshpull on April 15, 2012, 11:31:54 PM
So I have finally found a Therapist willing to write me a letter, at this point her big concern is that I will likely detransition if I'm not passable. We will probably begin writing my letter on my next session.

So Monday I'm going to call the Endocrinologist in town and see what I need to do to get my ducks in a row. Can anyone tell me how this works? I know I will need my therapist note and probably a GP note of sorts indicating that I'm not in bad health. What else can I expect to need for this? Will the Endo be doing the bloodwork or will that go thru my GP as well?

My therapist faxed the letter over. Other than that there was a 2 month waiting period for me to see her. I went in, got blood work, and got my scrip.

Maybe check with your insurance if you have it. You might save money if you get your pcp to refer you and do any blood work. Blood work is sometimes a very costly part of starting transition. When I started hormones, my PCP said, "well, you have to pay out of pocket for testosterone, but no one's going to tell me what diagnostic tests I can or can't do!"  :)

The fact that you have been referred by another  medical practitioner will be sufficient evidence for the Endo to proceed.  They will probably spend a while talking about your expectations versus actual effects, side effects to look out for and any concerns you might have.  That's about it really, other than possibly their own baseline blood tests  and writing The Prescription.   :)
