How do you get nail polish out of a keyboard???
I was doing my nails last night at the computer and I had set the brush in the bottle but I didn't close it, because I was going to put on a second coat.
Well I got involved in the computer for about ten minutes and completely ditzed out forgetting that I hadn't twisted the bottle closed and then picked it up by the cap. My keyboard is on a self below the level of the monitor and the nail polish was on the monitor table.
A couple of keys are stuck together which I broke open with a knife, and not a lot spilled but I now have pink nail polish drips on my black and silver keyboard.
I'm such a klutz sometimes!

Sandy, if the keyboard still works just learn to love the pink spots and if it doesn't, well, then you need a new keyboard. The acetone that is in nail polish remover will probably mess up your keyboard as badly or worse than the nail polish.
The Wal-Monster in my area has some keyboards that don't seem to be too expensive. A used one might be available too, ask around, if you can't see your way in spending the $$$ for a new one.
Or maybe you can just paint the rest of the keys pink?
Sorry,

PS - In a past life I was a plastics engineer.

Kassandra....I think Helen's right. Might be easier to buy a replacement a wally mart. However......you could just as well steal the appropriate keys from Helen's keyboard....heheh...

No, never ever go to wal-mart, they are pure evil!!!
Unplug the keyboard and use your nail polish remover all you want, then just let it dry and it might be OK. I have washed mine in the dishwasher before, the main point is to make sure they are dry before you plug them in again!
good luck!
If your keyboard is already messed up from the nail polish, then giving it a cleaning with non-acetone remover can't hurt it any worse :-)
If you do try and clean it out, I would recommend doing it as fast a possible so as not to give the chemicals too much time to eat the plastic. Then give it a good bath in soapy water and rinse in LOTS of clean water. no fabric softener is needed.
Let it dry for several days before using it again
Sandy, is your keyboard a wireless one? Or do you have a corded one? That will make a difference as to whether or not you can get it wet. You can also take a knife and carefully pry the caps off the keys on most keyboards. Then you can clean them away from the rest of it. You will likely be amazed at the junk that has accumulated inside your keyboard if you take it apart.
As has already been mentioned, corded keyboards are very cheap. It is common to find them under $10. If you can live with it for about 3 weeks I have a couple of extras around, too.
Good luck!

Kristi, thank you, that's so nice of you, but that won't be necessary. Actually, now that I've broken apart the keys that got stuck together, it's working fine (as you can see). So I'll leave it for right now, kind of a testimonial to my growing feminine life.
And, actually, having a pink accent keyboard is kind of neat.

Ummmmm......think camera break? You are a brave lass!
Actually I don't have very many. We might have some fun remedying that, though.

hehe, add more pink dots of course. ;)
I'd say:
Grab a knife, and scrape!
...
Or just let it be.
