Sorry for complaining again.
I'm tired of being too dumb to understand the social construct. One of my "friends" says it's a good thing, but it doesn't feel good. It just feels like I'm too stupid to understand something everyone else takes for granted and expects me to be smart enough to know about. I feel confused, disoriented, and I have no clue how to even start understanding. It just does not compute.
Worse, when I try to explain to people that, no, I really don't get it, they still assume I know anything about it. And then they start assuming all sorts of weird things about me that they call "subverting gender roles" (which, to me, sounds more like reinforcing weird social ideas) and I just get even more lost.
It's like I'm so stupid, other people can't wrap their heads around it.
I really don't like to be reminded of how stupid I am which is why I get defensive when the subject of the social construct comes up.
Personally I don't think you're stupid and that you have an insightful opinion...but I understand it either >.< It's confusing and makes my head hurt...

Edge, most of what you say makes my head get all stumbly. You seem to be very concerned with how people view you and your thoughts, and that makes me afraid that I'm going to say the wrong thing.
So. I'm not really into baked goods so much, but I'd love to have coffee with you. I think all humans are pretty stupid, and it's never impossible to find ways to be chill about that.

In the oddest twist there is a social link with muffins. Mind you your not dumb and I'll get to that BUT, On the so My Little Pony, the Pony Derpy Hoove's who's know for being... a little special. Also has an obsession with muffins

But hun that's not a sign of dumb much though it feels like it. It's a sign of having open eyes and not believing the wild truth you see. It's lack of data saturation for conformation. They are all mad and they do things win a pattern that has no basis outside it's self. think of it as a show where all the actors respond a certain way because the expect everyone else to? Because if they do they mad things they will get what they want after a sort. But the whole thing breaks down when you don't want what most want. When you don't fit... things rub. And you notice who... not fake, but maybe mad it all is.

I am doing "Gender,Power and Change" in first year Uni, and we are having trouble remembering and analysing this stuff. You are not stupid, there is a fairly large section of the class having real trouble with these concepts. I'd suggest something easy, like Quantum Physics. ;)

Rather than trying to learn what it is, something that occurred to me is to see it in action.
Have you ever seen or read any period English dramas? Something by Jane Austen or the Bronte Sisters, for example?
While stylised, they do a good job of illustrating the concept of gender roles in a society. Or at least in certain parts of a society. I think part of the trouble in understanding the precepts is that, in a modern world, they're very much diluted from what they were, and a lot of folks disregard them entirely. Although, that being said, there are still some people who hold to the Victorian and Edwardian model of women with delicate sensibilites whose only concerns in life are finding a suitable husband, looking beautiful, having children and being some diminutive flower, while men are the strong, dashing, Mr Darcy 'gentlemen' types with the stiff upper lip and rampant machismo.
Anyway, it's kinda not surprising that it's a struggle to get to grips with it since society, by its very nature, isn't a constant. Much less a single unified entity. And basing ones whole life outlook on societal roles or expectations, well, it's like building your house on quicksand. The foundations are fundamentally unstable.
