Well, Androcur is a general anti-androgen, and blocks both testosterone and DHT. Finasteride blocks the conversion from testosterone to DHT, and is usually used for hair loss treatment. If you're in the US, you'll never get Androcur prescribed because it's not approved by the FDA. I take both.

Another alternative is Dutasteride, which works in the same way as Finasteride, just more potent.

Most definitely, though Androcur is a very potent anti androgen even in small doses. Going without either testosterone or estrogen for a while may not do your body good.

Androcur is available here.. And frankly, is a little too effective and has some other issues...

I stopped taking it about 6 weeks ago after my T level dropped to 0.. That's not what caused me to seek help though.. I had a major depressive episode, with some associated anxiety.. I went and saw my psychiatrist and he ordered some blood work.. The results came back with great E levels and no T.. In discussion with him, I discovered that at least 7 or 8 of his other clients also had the same issue.. It seems that in addition to blocking T and DHT, it also works to prevent the creation of both, which is what then leads to depression.. At least that was how he explained it.. And whilst I can not discuss specific doses here, I wasn't on a high dose..

Androcur is a bit iffy concerning side-effects. You can get lucky and have no issues with depression or liver (moi!), but many fall into severe depression or have some issues with the liver (due to other things as well).

I'm on a low dose and do not have any problems. My T count varies from 20-35. I guess I'm lucky

Please read up on finasteride too. I got depressed after a while of being on it and also was causing brain fog I wasn't aware of until I stopped. While it blocks conversion of T to DHT, it also blocks other chemical conversions in your body that affect brain chemistry related to happiness and depression etc. I'm never taking that med again.

I've been on spiro for over a year and have had no negative side effects. Finasteride is a totally different mechanism for how it represses DHT.
