A North Carolina pastor's horrific anti-gay tirade is making the blogosphere rounds.
Sean Harris, senior pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayettesville, spoke at length in support of North Carolina's proposed Amendment 1, which would outlaw same-sex marriage, during an hour-long sermon on Sunday. In this clip, provided by Jeremy Hooper of the blog Good as You, a man identified as Harris is heard urging his congregation to attack their children if they appear to be exhibiting behavior outside of gender norms.
Notes Harris:
"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, 'Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,' you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Wow.
That someone would advocate punching a child, regardless of why, that's just... reprehensible.
Anyone elses blood boil when they read that?
I honestly can't comment other than that, I don't want to spread hate too.

Absolutely. And that it's coming from a preacher!
The later part reads as if he is a pedophile.
That kind of punishment only would make things worse. I seen when the dads did that kind of things growing up. These kids do not do well when they become adults. One of those kids I grew up with was killed in jail in 1977. I seen a lot of the 'man up' types go bad. There are a few here on Susan's trying to get their lives together. Limp wrists? Oh, really? My petite sisters don't even have that!

And if the kid comes back five or ten years later with a shotgun and shoots the whole family, is he going to accept responsibility for starting the whole disaster? Bet not!
I say, "Parishioners should punch their homophobic Pastors!" Fairs fair.
My parents were told, by Drs in the Children's hospital, in Seattle, in 1963, to toughen me up to make me a man. They took that as meaning to beat me.
Needless to say it didn't work.
I only mention is to demonstrate that these attitudes are not entirely unusual.
But it is rather disturbing that the parents present in that congregation, didn't appear to be objecting to the man's suggestion that fathers should punch a four year old boy. I can't comment upon the social climate of N Carolina, though this is incredibly sad.
He issued a "statement" today that he was 'joking', but was not apologizing for his views of gays (and he threw some gender stuff in there for good measure).
So, we have, in NC, one supporter of Amendment One who is a preacher who thinks you should beat the gay out of kids.
And we have another supporter (the wife of one of the bill's writers) who has stated that the proposed amendment was written to ensure the survival of the caucasian race.
Lovely people these.
Ew, someone should punch him.

With respect to that woman and others like her, there are many here in Europe, the decline in the number of people they might define as of caucasian race is because this group aren't producing enough babies.
To maintain present numbers every couple would need to produce at least 2. Simple arithmetic. Reality is, largely because of economic pressures, the overall average is between just over or just under, 1. (Depending upon which statistics you use).
The world might blast off to the stars in the 24th century, but it's gonna be a man with dark skin, black hair and brown eyes, flying that beast.
The Pastor doesn't scare me, The people listening to him scare me. Because they believe him. Most won't do what he says... But you know some will.
And he's lying, Everything a Pastor says in the Church is no joke (Unless it literally is). It's not his job to joke, He's not freaking Rush Limbaugh so he (and other preachers) should stop trying to act like it. He has a responsibility to lead people to be better and accepting, He is a horrible person and god would be ashamed of him.
North Carolina pastor makes 'Official Statement of Retraction'

Sean Harris, a Baptist pastor in North Carolina who advocated that fathers 'punch' their sons if they start to act effeminately issued an 'official retraction' of his comments via his blog on Wednesday (2 May).
He stressed that he wanted to retract any words that suggest that child abuse is appropriate 'for any and all types of behaviors including (but not limited to) effeminacy and sexual immorality of all types.'
'I should not have said what I said about 'cracking' [or] 'punching,' he wrote. 'I have never suggested children or those in the LGBT lifestyle should be beaten, punched, abused (physically or psychologically) in any form or fashion.'

North Carolina preacher Sean Harris, the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, N.C., who is heard in an audio clip telling his congregation that, should their children show any signs of "homosexual" behavior, it is their responsibility to use violence as a corrective measure to prevent that child from being gay or lesbian, now says he was misquoted and just joking.
Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted perhaps.
But at least he realises the effect his words had. That's something.
Calling him a moron would be generous.
A other love religion >:-)
Much more worrisome is the flock that listen to this and act on it.
