Title: Community Acceptance
Post by: debisl on April 02, 2007, 07:04:22 AM
I received a phone call from a lady friend last week and she wanted to invite me to her 50th wedding anniversary party at the VFW.

I may have to do a little flash back here. I have been helping out this older couple up the road from me. Fern does not drive and her husband Bill had a stroke, so he can't drive. He is getting much better and hopes to be driving again. I go pick up their medicines and nick nacks. I have been taking Fern to the store for their grocery shopping for about a year now. When she need to shop for gifts , or clothes I will take her.

Received a call from Fern Saturday morning and she said one of her sons would be by to pick me up later.
He came buy with his wife and off we went. We got to the VFW and there must have been about a hundred people there. This was a sit down dinner and I was sitting with Fern and Bills relatives.

The microphone came alive and it was the usual stuff. Talking about all of the good times. They introduced all of their kids. They had 7 boys. Five of them married, one divorced, one single. A little while after the intro's of their kids Fern says " I would like to introduce my little pumpkin Deborah" OMG I was embarrased now. She says " I have taken it on my self to adopt little Deborah into our family" "She is the daughter we never had" Now I am thinking what about her five daughter in-laws. They are going to be pissed at me. They were not!!! All of them came up to me and wanted to thank me for helping out. Not all but a lot of the other community folks came up to me and said that was a nice thing I was doing for Fern and Bill. Some of them just wanted to meet the girl that bought the horse ranch. This is a mans turf, and they offered help if I ever needed it.

I had a most wonderful time. Especialy mentally. I was treated as Deborah.

My good news story

Deb,

That is really great news. It's so nice to hear when things go well. We all have enough bad memories to last several lifetimes, it's great to hear about the things that will become tomorrows great memories.

Love always,
Elizabeth
