Title: Gender: female setting...
Post by: chunk on April 02, 2007, 03:45:13 PM
Okay so I finally set it to female. I really want to set it to either both or a third symbol.
But I decided to at least set it to match up with my hardware but I don't like it.

Just curious why we don't have a little more room to move in our own gender category?

...or maybe I should go out and eat lunch and relax.  ;)

That's why I haven't set a gender in my profile. ;)
But hey; these symbols are all about plumbing. I think we can surely see beyond that.

The problem is the software. Last time this came up, it wasn't possible to add a third choice with this bulletin board software. That's probably still the case, or Susan would have done it. She's aware of the issue.

Ya a few of us talked about it before in the post at https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,6630.0.html.

I decided to leave it blank also.

I also left it blank, seems like the best option for now

I don't know how to put an image in here. I'll try this link.

Its an idea for some different gender icons.

I was looking around briefly and came up with two ideas that may or may not work.

One is to replace the images of the bear moods with some gender icons and sort of hijacking part or all of the mood system. I personally don't find those useful...but maybe some people do...and maybe we could overwrite some and not all.

Another is to use badges that I've seen used by other forums for tags like "moderator" etc. Those would be more rectangular and need something completely different.

Just some ideas. I'm a digital artist so I can create a set of images to represent what you need in whatever size or shape you need.

I am also one of those who refuses to use a gender icon because neither of the available options really fits.  I also never really understood the teddy bears and the mood thing.

On another site I visit, the software has "Gender" as a text box that you can fill in with anything.  Some people write "Male."  Some people write "Female."  Some of the more creative responses are "Girl with boy like traits", "Biologically male, but 91% feminine", and "Whenever I see gender, I think of blender...am I a milkshake?"  (And it isn't a transgender site...in theory.)

I wrote in "Questioning" for a while, then more recently replaced it with "Fluid androgyne."

And that's why I don't select one of two astrological icons.

There are 45 mood icons according to my limited research. So potentially there is a lot of room for variety.

I'm at a loss for ideas for CD and SO.  ??? (hint, hint)

I'd enjoy flipping between a few choices depending on where I'm at that week. But maybe thats because I'm lost and confused. LOL.

I don't want to annoy people with this idea if it isn't possible. Personally, I think that on a site like this one, it would be great to overwhelm people with choice of gender. Even a "human being" option would be fun. Who has their hands in the code on this site? Can someone float this idea to the powers that be?

I'll sign up to create the gifs.  ;)
