For me, they're working when... I have these massive inexplicable cravings for weird food.

1. When people you don't know think your 10 years younger than you are.

2. When people you know don't recognize you.

3. When a family friend almost falls off his chair and starts blabbering: "You look just like your mother".. "Your a spitting image of your mother"... "You look like your mother reincarnated!".

But even then, I still get Sir'ed everytime!

Ok, I haven't started transition yet, but is this a real event? I just want to be prepared in case female hormones really do make you as emotional as people say they do...

At about 3-4 weeks into HRT, I was an emotional mess.

A helpful reply email from a coworker had me in tears of happiness. Now, a little more than a year in, my emotions have for the most part stabilized. That said, I was a sensitive person before starting HRT and I'm even more so now.

I am deeply ashamed to say yes, this is a real event. Not one of my life's finer moments :embarrassed:

It happened about 3 or 4 months after I started hrt. This was the worst one of these unexpected moments. After a while the emotional outburst kind of developed more into an attitude. I was quiet bitchy for a while, but that settled down too.

Oh, and just to be clear. The person storming out crying was me, not the person that got soaked.

Well I'm glad to hear it's not permanent. Do you get those infrequent injections or daily pills? I heard that while monthly injections are convenient, a month's supply of hormones make you on edge for a few days.

I take estrogen, progesterone, and anti-androgen pills daily.

I have taken pills daily for about 2 1/2 years now.
Yes I am much more emotional now.
Once a month I have about 3 or 4 days when my emotions are seemingly out of control.
Last week it was that time of month and my GF was teasing me. I was happy and enjoying it and then all of a sudden I threw a box down and ran to the bathroom crying. Wow what a roller coaster ride
I ask some of my girl friends about it and they said, "You can't control your emotions during your period, you just live through them.
But most of the time it is so good to feel emotions. Before hormones I hid mine so deep inside that it was like I had none. I now can laugh and feel great. I cry when hurting and when others are hurting. I not only have compassion but I feel compassion. For me it opened up a wholed new world,
For once I feel like I am living instead of watching life go by.

When a friend who only knew you as a guy say's that you are now a pretty women.
The tears just rolled down my cheeks.

Today when a friend ask,"Have you ever felt so depressed that you just want to die?" When I said yes she said she was feeling like that right now. I could hardly hold my emotions at bay enought to comfort her.
The rest of the day I tear up everytime I think about her pain.

1.) I cuddle my teddy at night wishing he was a big strong man who will take care of me

Uffff. If I am going to be in a bigger emotional mess than I am now and have more sudden changes of mood, I don't know If HRT is a good idea for me. But since I'm being reworked to control those things...

Honestly, If one day I see a baby as something beautiful, I want to be put on a guillotine.

I was pretty reckless when I started out and was on a high dose right away. If you start out on a lower dose it will probably work out better. As with most others you will too have your moments of meltdown but you have to remember that you will have the most wonderful moments as well. Over all I would have to say I was a much happier person once on hrt. The positive far outweighed the negative.

I'm worried about the emotions too. I guess I can try a mind-over-matter thing. I agree with you on the baby front. I think they're cute, but beautiful is a long-shot and I don't think any amount of hormones will do anything to change that.

My babies are old enough to need contraception. And I'm old enough to coo and goo over other babies and hand them back when they make noise (or worse).

But, I'm the type who sees them as beautiful. I was like that before hormones, though.

And of course she is very sweet about it.

Does any one have anything to say about long term depression and whether HRT affected their day to day state of mind?

Can any one make any comparison betweent pre HRT and HRT day to day approach to life in between the intense emotional times?

Also, stupid question apparently, but am I to understand that I will begin to have a period despite the lack of ability to ovulate? This is a seeious question.

Okay, I haven't started HRT yet, so I can only answer one of these questions. You will NOT have a period. A period begins with the formation of a follicle to mature an egg cell in the ovary. The follicle then turns into the corpus luteum to release pregesterone while the egg cell travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus. It could be fertilized while in the fallopian tube or not. If it isn't, then the uterine lining built after the progesterone release will deteriorate and be eliminated from the vagina, i.e, menstruation.

No matter what you do, as MTF, you will never have a uterus, ovary, egg cells, or a natural vagina. In short, you WILL NOT HAVE A PERIOD.

Some days I dread to think what i'll be like on HRT but I still can't wait

I love BSG, it is so nice to know.

That's what confused me, I love chatting with the girls so much more than my constant male friends (most of them) and former work colleagues which I mostly find exhausting, but I still haven't grown to appreciate ice skating or chick flicks, though I can't quite get enough of thirty rock.

I guess I am more of a Tom Girl.

I can't say for sure if there is a direct correlation, but around the time I started HRT, my depression became much, much less - almost to the point of being gone. During intensely emotional times, I do find that I am more controlled by my emotions, but not really a whole lot more than before, I've always been an emotionally driven person.

I can't say I've had a 'cycle' of any kind - except for the fact that I know when my female housemates are having their period - without anything being said.

Before HRT I was very depressed almost all of the time and often suicidal.
But now that I am full time I have very little depression.
My emotions are more intense both highs and lows. Before the lows were not so intense but would last sometimes for days. Now they only last for a very short time.
I don't have period according to my gg girl friend because to have them you would have to have a blood flow. But I do have a monthly hormonal rush and I am emotional unbalanced. Also but not fun are the real cramps that go with it. The emotional roller coaster, of laughing one moment crying the next and then becoming a real bitch, last from 3 to 4 days.  This happens at the same time each month.
So I just call it that time of month to be bitchy. ;)

One of my female friends thinks i'll be a wreck on HRT at first, she said this after I told her that I cried whilst watching The Fantatic 4, when the Things wife throws her wedding ring on the floor I get a lump in my throat, then when the Thing can't pick the ring up from the floor because of his oversized hands the tears start.
I can't believe i'm getting a lump in my throat just thinking about it
