I'm new here, and while my doctors shrug off my ambitions to become a guy, i have been talking to other people about it and trying to figure it out on my own. the problem is i cannot find any up to date information that isnt from years ago to verify that the surgical techniques available are even accurate anymore.
I was looking into the phallo surgery because i wanted to be able to perform, i was admitedly discouraged by the assistance devices considering the fact that i wanted unasisted, which made me look into metidioplasty, but then I realized that i would not be able to perform in the more intimate aspects of my life because of the size.
i havent even begun down this long road yet, and im sure by the content you can tell i really dont know very much. im concerened about being ably to pay for any of this as i am disabled and cant work, how will my healthcare cover any of this? I really am quite sad about all of this because im venturing this road alone. Ive potentially lost a relationship due to coming out about wanting to be a guy, and ive also been afraid that no one is taking this seriously. i dont have any transgender friends to talk to which is why i came to this forum.
i dont really know what to do, but is there any information online that is from the year 2012?

i was trying to see what the most modern techniques were, in regards to being a full sized individual and be able to maintain unasisted erections. i understand so far with phalloplasty that is not at all possible...and what is the likelyhood of healthcare covering it?
chances of healthcare covering it? In the US, zero. I've never heard of a guy getting phallo covered by insurance.

There's a number of insurance companies that have plans that cover it but the kicker is being covered under a contract that doesn't exclude it.

Others may correct me. I am under the impression that, sadly, unassisted erections are not yet possible. The problem is the mechanisms are somewhat more complicated than simply the affected area.
It is apparently necessary to maintain a mental attitude, which sets up a hormonal feed back loop with the sex organ. Or something along those lines.

This is correct. Usually in order for an unassisted erection to occur there must be spongey tissue present in order for the organ to be engorged with blood. The donor site from a phalloplasty does not have this special spongey tissue. Science has come far but not far enough to where we are able to replicate this spongey tissue yet.
You may want to look into the centurion as it adds more girth.
The metoidioplasty size depends on the growth you get from T so I wouldn't completely rule that out yet. While the norm is 1-3 I have see metoidioplasty results that are larger than cis males. Also I've heard from guys that pumping can increase growth along with certain creams.
There has been one blog about the potential to integrate an internal penile stretcher for guys who want to have a metoidioplasty done but that is potentially years off.
Lets just hope that there will be more advancements in the future. :)
