Last week I got my first prescriptions for an estrogen patch and spiro. My new doctor put my physical and related blood tests onto my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket for the hormone level baseline test and the office visit when i got the prescriptions. My doctor says it is a red flag to insurance compnaies giving a female hormone to a genetic male. The spiro could be used as a blood pressure medicine so that would probably be covered.
I went to a large pharmacy I had not used in some time and told them i was a new patient and I did not file my meds on insurance at this time, but they did already have my information from my visit there in the past (must have been a few years ago). The lady told me the patches would be $100 for a month's supply and I was willing to pay that. When I went to pick them up the patches were $35 and the spiro $10. Insurance had picked up both even though I had requested they not. I just took the meds and went home to apply and take them. I don't think you can undo something already on an electronic record.
My question is can this cause me to lose my insurance (it is a major comapny and a private plan)? Can/will it cause my rates to go up?
My insurance has paid for all my HRT medications. I've not turned in any endo visits or surgeries though.
No comment from them at all yet (9 months or so [as far as legal HRT goes]).
My insurance covers my hormones even though they have a policy not to cover transgender stuff. They have also covered all my appointments & labs. I just don't say anything and let them continue to pay for it.
