I am a genderfluid, biological female, and I discovered (read: admitted to myself) last February that I rather like to crossdress. The trouble is, I have next to no experience applying the right makeup to make myself appear more masculine on those days that I want to present as male. The only times I've really gone out in male presentation have been when one of my good friends from school has been around to do the makeup for me. Now that the semester's over and everyone's gone back home, I'm in a wee bit of a slump.
I guess I just have two basic questions:
1) Where can I get quality makeup to achieve a masculine look (that is preferably not too expensive)?
2) Tips/techniques for applying said makeup for myself

I just wonder whether makup for looking masculine is popular ??? Makeup is mostly for women, isn't it?

Unless you're appearing in a stage play, there's no such thing as makeup to make you look masculine. Pretty much all makeup is obvious to observers within a few feet and men in our society generally don't wear it. So that's that.
Most G-females I've seen have looked considerably more masculine without any makeup. Some familiar actresses would surprise you. I think I look more feminine that Cameron Diaz does without it. Kelly Ripa says she doesn't get recognized when she goes without makeup. I think going naked faced is your best bet. Work on your movements, voice and attitude.

Are you meaning makeup to achieve the look of "stubble" and so forth? I don't know how, myself, but I wonder if that's what you mean to maybe help the discussion... a lot of people think "makeup" and think female automatically but I think you mean more "techniques to look more masculine." Or am I missing something?

All I can think of right now is using eyebrow pencil to accentuate them a little. If you wear glasses getting a new pair would be a big help.

Essentially, yes. Also some of my friends from school have suggested subtle shadowing to make my face appear more angular.

Well, I can see how some people might think that would work and, as I said, it is done in stage productions, but your problem is that makeup is always detectable at close range. If you're not planning to be closer than 20 feet from anybody, it might work for you. Otherwise it won't.

I remember meeting a female to male crossdresser and what she did to achieve a five o'clock shadow was to take a black eyeliner and doted it all over her face where facial hair would grow. I wouldn't be doing anything more than that as gg guys don't have a need for makeup.

There might be some info at Drag King sites. Or from people who help do the makeup for drag kings. I know Drag artists tend to over empathise but they may have some good basics.
Depending where you are you may find people in some of the lesbian collective sites that may be able to help. I know in Adelaide there is a 'beauticians' that runs courses for MtF and FtM make-up classes, they have a straight hairdressing saloon on the lower floor which I find hilarious for some reason. Lots of innuendoes about which floor you want, that is if you want the second floor :laugh:

Using makeup to change the profile of your eyebrows might be a big help, too. It won't be that noticeable, but it's a subtle clue to gender.
This is interesting. I don't know that I would go out of the house with this. But it actually does look convincing. You are basically extending and coloring hair you already have on your face.
