Title: Urgent Care
Post by: Robert Scott on May 31, 2012, 08:49:33 AM
So, yesterday I went to urgent care ---(minor med, whatever it's called in your neck of the woods) --- with a killer ear ache.  It's been about a month since I have changed my name and I have changed it in my medical stuff.

So, I get into the room to wait for the doctor & the nurse says to me -- you can take your shirt off b/c the doctor is going to want to listen to your lungs -- and walks out.  Never before have I had this happen --- usually they give me a gown to cover myself with.  Then it struck me that the nurse was treating me like a guy --- not a transguy but a guy.  All my medical records still say female just the name change.  It was cool.

It is amazing to me how much more I am treated like a guy with the name change.  No more getting ma'am on the phone anymore...it's always sir.

Despite being in incredible pain -- it made me happy to be treated that way.

Congrats!! I am happy that despite the situation, you still had a good experience. How is your ear?

When you pass so well; you are treated like any other male.  Guys have no problem taking their shirt off and sitting on the exam table topless.  What did you do?

I took my shirt off --- I had a compression shirt & binder on so it looked like I was wearing an undershirt.  I kinda looped it over my arms so my front wasn't completely visible.  The doctor didn't seem to notice or care.

My ear still hurts but it feels much better at least I was able to sleep last night with the aid of pain pills
