Title: What Lies Behind
Post by: Sephirah on May 31, 2012, 11:10:12 PM
Couldn't think of a better title. :-\ Oh well. This is the first poem I've wrote in quite a while, so I apologise for it not being very good.

What Lies Behind

A birth that was not hers to choose,
A life she can't define,
Existence bound within a ruse,
Tied up with Nature's twine.

A boy! A son! A fine young lad!
Such wonder he shall be!
Confused, she wonders why she's sad,
At what her elders see.

As adolescence takes its hold,
Upon this light withdrawn,
Wrought changes carved with numbing cold,
Amid the endless scorn.

The years roll on, she starts to feel,
Within is not without,
And self-awareness breaks the seal,
Of silent, lingering doubt.

Now darkness lies behind her eyes,
What desperate, pain-filled rage,
Incessant, damning, hate seared cries,
Her soul within a cage.

At last she spies salvation's peace,
Through words of strangers kind,
The path of Change to now release,
Male shackles from her mind.
