Title: Surprisingly nice ending to otherwise uncomfortable shopping trip!
Post by: Stewie on June 03, 2012, 01:00:58 PM
Well, I have to go to a formal event and I don't really have clothes for that. My closet basically consists of t-shirts, jeans, and shorts lol I always shop for men's clothing but it is always slightly uncomfortable for me. Usually my mom will at least stay with me or around me and I will sort of feel more comfortable lol But this time my family had to help my sister shop for a dress so I was sort of left to myself. I don't know what the hell got into me. As stupid as it is, I got this feeling like everyone is judging me and has their eyes on me lol It is incredibly silly and I see this but at that moment, I just had this panic thing. I was sweating and was just extremely uncomfortable. It didn't help that when I got a shirt and wanted to go to a quiet dressing room, I went to the one in the bra section. I have no issue with the fact that it was in the bra section. It was what happened that horrified me. I went for the same room I always go to in the corner because it's big and nice and when I open it, there's a lady there trying on a bra...I couldn't stop saying sorry and I shut the door so fast! -_- I know it's my fault but she should have locked the door. And while I tried the shirt on and what not, I had to hear her conversation with the lady who works there about how she is going to find her a sexy bra...lol Well, when all was said and done, I found a pair of slacks and shirt which I loved, but I still needed some shoes.

Well, at this point I was with my family and they liked what I got but then it was time to get shoes. And I wanted to get some formal men's shoes which I have never done. It basically set off another panic attack because my grandma was watching me and her looks kinda make me uncomfortable. Either way, my mom helped out a lot but basically, the shoes did not come in my size. Too big. The lady working there did help and even got me some boys shoes to see if they fit but she wasn't overly nice or anything. Just doing her job.

I asked my mom if we could go to another store in the mall and she went with me. I saw that they sold shoes at Men's Palace and I went in with her. I thought it would be horrible. Especially since there was a middle eastern young man working there. I didn't think he'd particularly like having what appears like a very butch lesbian searching for men's shoes. Boy oh boy was I wrong. He was the SWEETEST thing on this earth. He helped me get shoes that actually fit and he was so professional. The guy that did the transaction was also really nice and not once did I feel uncomfortable. The irony of it all. Never judge a book by its cover because you will always meet nice people in unexpected places!!!

What has been your experience shopping for clothing pre-t?

Oh and these are the awesome shoes! Lol I love them.

i had to go shopping for an outfit for my sisters wedding, i usually get a couple looks but i just pay no attention. i practically live in jeans so it was interesting. i always have to take someone with me cause i have almost no sense of style. the main problem i have with buying mens clothes is that I'm short and husky. i have to have almost everything altered

Nice shoes!

I've actually found most shop attendants to be pretty helpful, even in the past when I didn't pass. One thing I did notice was that men seemed much more at ease helping me with the guys clothes than women, who would probably be better described as simply doing their jobs.

I used to have that same anxiety before I passed, especially when I would pick up men's clothes and go into the male changerooms, rather than the women's. I always felt like everyone was staring at me and wondering what I thought I was doing in there, but I eventually came to the realisation that as much as it seemed like a huge deal to me, most people just plain don't give a crap what other people are doing while shopping. :P

Anyway, congrats on the awesome shopping trip! :D

Lol yeah. I was gonna go into the men's dressing room and then I saw them. A mom and her 3 little kids. They were blocking the entrance and were just being loud and obnoxious. I didn't want to deal with that. And there was the element of fear! I rather just go to the bra dressing room while I still can because almost NO ONE goes there! Dark and quiet wins the game!
