Exactly. I've seen so many things with dogs. There was a story of a pitbull who actually stood in front of a train to protect the owner who was drunk. The dog survived and the lady was saved. Amazing. LET'S SEE A CAT DO THAT!
This is more subject to whether a person is more introverted or extroverted than anything else, isn't it? From my experience, people are going to lean toward their animal counterpart with the same personality type more. Personally, being an introvert, I greatly prefer cats - every extroverted person I've ever known liked dogs better. Like most things, it's all a matter of compatibility.
Cats are way better.
Dogs reek (literally).
Dog's do not "reek" lol I worked at an animal shelter and trust me, the dogs smelled waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the cats. Gosh, just going into the room with the kitty litter was nasty!

You know, dog breath and their body stinks.
Haven't you ever heard of people complaining about the smell of wet dog before?
I'm not talking about cat faeces, because yes, that stinks, but I think if any animal was doing it's business in a box filled with litter and it was left sitting there overnight, yeah, it'd probably smell.
Your point is moot.
:)

Any animal stinks if they aren't taken care of. And dogs breath only stinks if their teeth have not been cleaned. My dog's mouth was bad and then he had his teeth cleaned and it's not bad at all. There is no real smell. And wet dogs mells yeah. But chances are the dog isn't wet!
Before a fight breaks out here, it IS a matter of opinion. Just pointing out I've owned both cats and dogs and neither really smell to me (but they were always inside so no wet and muddy animals).
You're asking about which is a better friend. That would be a dog, because well.. cat's are selfish.
If you'd ask about which is the better pet. I would say dog first because I just like dogs better, but cats are a lot easier (we have a cat and we can stay away from home for a night without a problem, can't do that with a dog) And she's attached as hell. (sleeps on the bed every night)
On the other hand.. we came home Sunday evening and the curtains (and everything that goes with it) were lying on the floor.. (first time ever so we're not worried... ;))
(Oh and for 'the record' (aka my personal opinion), nothing smells worse than cat's breath, ever had a cat look at you while burping or something? Yeck) xD

Devlyn is an ISTP!
For me it is a cat. Cats are cheaper to manage than dogs and are more conveinient and more independent. Aside from not owning a pet, creature that doesn't take as much money and time to manage is a best friend to me.

There was a story of a cat owner who was a sleep and a fire broke out and the cat actually woke her up so she could escape.
Psh, my cat saved us from a fire too. I was sleeping and my fricken dad left the stove on and fell asleep (he's disabled and has a lot of problems so it's understandable), so of course the whole house got smokey. Honestly, I think the cat's priority was saving himself, lawl. I love my pets and I have no favorites but there's no doubt that my dog loves me more, lolz. :3
Cats. They fit in more with my life.
I've never liked dogs, and cats have always liked me.
DOGS!!!!!!!!
I know theres a "Men with Cats" thread on here, but hey, its dogs that rule. Dogs are amazing, theyre loyal, so intelligent, more beautiful, a wider range in breeds, bigger (which to me is a plus :p ). Cats are stuck up and selfish! Ofcourse, there are exceptions; those rare one off cats that are nice and give companionship. Ive grown up with many dogs and many cats, and while Ive loved all of my pets, absolutely loved them, dogs are so much better companions!!!! :D
I love my cats <3 I have two of them at the moment, 3 others are living elsewhere.
Dogs RULE !!! lets see a cat stop someone braking in to your house
I love them both but unfortunetly have developed an allergy to them :-\
But if you live alone and happen to die for whatever reason, a dog will pine over your dead body and attract attention were as a cat will just eat you when it runs out of food :P
Sorry, sick humor :P I'm terrible

I don't think this is
that rare since I know plenty of cats who are like this and both of my cats are this way. There are also cats that seem like they crawled out of hell and seem diabolically evil, but it's likely because there is a total lack of communication between the human and the animal.
Bear in mind, there are also vicious dogs out there and dogs that don't fit the quota you say. When a dog has had bad experiences or little to no experiences with people, it's not uncommon for the animal to behave "badly" and have aggression manifest.
Personally, I think cats are better, but that's probably because I've had such a good experience with them and such a bad experience with dogs growing up.
*insert pointless rant here*
I really don't know why I just typed all of that.
I'm a big time introvert and I much prefer dogs. This partially stems from me being allergic to cats. I do love cats, but I'd rather a dog in the long run. Plus, the smell of cat urine is too overpowering for me. I like an animal I can walk outside to use the restroom.
[I'd never have an outdoor cat because I don't trust how people drive.]

Wrong.
I had to leave for 6 weeks, and had my mom babysit my cat.
She called me worried, telling my cat was in depression, not playing anymore, not eating much and had been laying on my bed for the longest time. The minute I picked her up she went right back to normal. (She was mad at me for a bit, but after a bunch of kisses she was fine :D)
My cat follows me everywhere in the house, greets me at the door and meows when I come back from work(She's saying hi).
Constantly asks for belly rubs and has to be close to me at all times. She does that for no one else.
My kitty is loyal, and wouldn't be happy with anyone else.
I know that for sure.
And I love her!

Ah well, animals vary as much as humans. My cats were all completely hateful little d-bags (one bit my mother on the head for absolutely no reason at all) and funny thing is, I actually like having nasty little cats. :P Having a nice cat would be weird.

cats ftw definitely
my Jess also welcomes us home and always wants to sit on our laps and get her tummy tickled lol. She is the most docile, friendly cat I've ever seen.
cats are less smelly (I've never noticed bad breath or anything and no smell from her litter tray at all), very very clean (Jess never stops washing herself), a nice mix of independence and dependence. Less needy and no jumping up and down and yapping/barking. a cat's purr is the best sound in the world.
They're just awesome :p

True actually, I had a Siamese cat when I was a kid that had no qualms about attacking pretty much anyone or anything 8)
When I had an intruder a couple of years ago, the dog I had at the time ran and hid
Oh well, I still love all the lil' creatures and many of the big creatures too :D

Devlyn is an ISTP!
I doubt it. You REALLY seem like an SJ to me.
I love both but I've always, always leaned towards dogs. Specifically dachshunds. Cats still seem to love me for some reason though.
Dogs do lots of cool heroic stuff, and have awesome loyalty and all...
But the fact that cats are there for you to cuddle and talk to when you're feeling sad makes up for it. Their whimsical, mysterious nature... adds to it. The cute-factor is definitely good for your health, too.
I think the owner, and the way they are treated, goes a long way to determining the temperament and behaviour of a pet, especially if raised from a pup or kitten. So I don't particularly think either species is overall better than the other in terms of inherent "pet powah", and it comes down to personal preference.
I've had both in my life, but never really formed the same emotional bond with my cat that I did with my dogs. That and my dogs were bigger, so there was more of them to cuddle, and I loved taking them for walks. When they died, it was like losing close relatives, or children, rather than just animals. Which is why I haven't got another one since. I can't go through it again.
Both!
Some dogs can be obnoxious as hell and overly needy; but you can take them hiking, camping, running- they're really loyal and fun.
Some cats can be evil and nasty as hell; but they're independent, fun to cuddle with and do awesome instinct stuff- like catch flies in midair and stalk ->-bleeped-<-.
I love both for their own reasons, haha.
