Title: Got listed as male but...
Post by: Frank on June 05, 2012, 02:37:32 PM
So I got my licence today and the ladies put me down as male on everything so I was pretty happy about that. However, I haven't officially changed my marker or anything so now I'm like, okay better not do anything to draw attention because I don't want police having something not match and then being told I perjuried myself or something. My birth certificate was right in front of them so I don't know how that got missed but you know... ::) Does anyone know about the legalities here?

You can only commit perjury if you have been affirmed or taken an oath.  A cop stopping you and your gender marker not matching on all of your paper work is not perjury.

The 'legalities' depends on what state you are in. Some states require very little to change your DL legally, others are more difficult.

You should be okay. When I was a kid I was a traveler and all sorts of officialities got overlooked and a lot of assumptions were made. As long as you don't intentionally misrepresent yourself in a documented way in the course of or for the purpose of doing something illegal, you can usually work through any tangles and come out unscathed.

Thank you, I had nothing to do with it so I'm hoping that'll fly if trouble comes (which hopefully won't.)
