Title: What to expect the first week on T
Post by: Nicolas on June 05, 2012, 11:50:54 PM
Greetings everyone,

I was researching information on the effects that are usual the first week after the first T injection and was elated to come across this site! I did a search on this but was unable to locate a thread, if I missed it then my sincere apologies. I admit I am eager to jump in.

Today I received my very first injection and I have yet to stop smiling. Although there is general information on changes in general, I was hoping to gain individual perspectives from other guys on this journey.

So my opening question is, what were some of the changes you noticed? If at all during the first week.

I'm not sure if it is the excitement of the day but I've been feeling incredibly energized. As I write this I am in bed unable to settle in for the night. So many thoughts running through my mind. When will changes occur? When will my hair grow thicker? How long before my voice changes? Etc. Its an exciting milestone and I cant think of a better place to share my joys, sharing and asking than in a trans friendly space here.

I truly look forward to meeting new people and maybe luck out in making new friends as well.

My regards,
Nico

Nothing really.  My throat felt a little sore, but that was about it.  All the changes (hair getting thicker, voice changing, etc) are really not things that we can say "that will happen in X month" because your body is not our body.  It's genetics and varies a lot for different guys.  Sorry I can't give you  more of a definitive answer, but that's just the nature of puberty.

EDIT:  actually my throat wasn't sore, it just felt tight.

Nothing. I didn't notice a sore throat until week 2.

I'm on T 6 weeks as of today. My first week I got a scratchy throat and my voice broke a few times. I definitely felt more energized and my moods leveled out and I was just...happier.

At this point, my voice has dropped half an octave (possibly a full octave), I've gotten about half an inch of bottom growth, my leg hair has filled in nicely and I've got a 15 year old boy mustache going. But I've had amazing changes compared to a lot of other guys here. Most people notice changes within 1-3 months, but they can take as long as 3-6. And there's no guarantee that there will be noticeable ones. Be sure to utilize the search function in the forum - there are lots of threads with T updates!

Absolutely nothing. My first noticeable change didn't occur until 3 months later

I had my last period the first week on T.. rofl.. I hadn't had it in over a year, and once I started T, it came... and now I haven't had it since.

The first week was a sense of peace and just feeling right with the world, my body didn't seem like the enemy as much as just a challenge.

The second week, that froggy got in my throat and, well things happened quickly after that.

The rate of and sometimes if you have a certain effect all vary from one person to another.

Welcome to Susan's and gratz on getting your first T shot.

You wont see much happen the very first week most likely, but if I remember correctly, i think my main experiences were increased sex drive, and I was sleepy all the time.

Welcome to Susan's!  I would just like to say that it's okay to be excited and ready for changes, but you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you are expecting changes in the first week.  I learned the hard way and felt gutted to see so many guys talking about having sore throats, voice drops, hair growth, etc. in their first few weeks only to NOT have a single "sign" the T was doing anything until about 3 months in.  Scrutinising your body daily is also not a good idea as you'll begin to think changes aren't happening fast enough.  My advice - make monthly videos and photo diaries and compare them.

Changes happen at a different rate for everyone - there is no certain rate where you truly can expect things to have for you in particular.

First week nothing really happened, within the first 2 weeks I definitely got more sensitive below the belt, after just over a month I've noticed more hair growth over my body, got my first proper chest hair the other day so I'm well chuffed! Pre t I had to exaggerate my voice a little and now after a month I don't have to do that much to obtain the same pitch which is nice. You may get very hungry all the time, I know I did! My appetite just shot up, facial hair...well the fluff is all filling in rapidly and I've had a lot of acne so trying to control that has been fun. But remember everyone experiences different rates of change, some guys don't see changes until a few months in, others start experiencing them from the early days

I actually checked my journal for this because I only remembered one or two things.

My throat started getting tickly and scratchy a few days in. Three days in, my voice was giving me a little trouble on the high notes when I sang.

Three or four days in, I started feeling...well, interesting sensations downstairs. Twinges. I thought I smelled a little different down there, too, but I wasn't quite sure.

On the fifth day, I woke up so horny that I masturbated immediately and had a powerful urge to jump my therapist (that I remember; I didn't need to look it up). From then on, I was a raging sex perv.

Around the same time, I thought I might be picking up a bit of muscle in my biceps. After six days, I found that bicycling was easier (I have a stationary bike), and I exceeded the goal I usually had to struggle to make. A few days later, I had to increase the resistance because cycling had become altogether too easy.

On the eleventh day, my voice made a fairly dramatic shift (most people didn't notice, but my therapist and I could hear how different I sounded). Singing was weird by this point because I would suddenly get a temporary burst of a somewhat deeper voice, and my throat would vibrate at a different frequency.

I had a bit of downstairs growth by the fourteenth day.

So that was my first two weeks, anyway.

Congrats on starting. Do you plan to keep a vlog or a journal?

Guys, seriously, thank you all for your replies. It is actually rather awesome to be able to talk to others who know exactly what I'm talking about.

I am trying to keep my footing and maintain a firm grasp on realistic expectations. I suppose I am riding that high of it finally happening. The journey truly beginning and I am filled with joy and wonders. Almost childlike in a sense. Instead of, I wonder what I will look like when I grow up... it is more like, I wonder how I will change during this journey. If that makes any sense.

But yes I am keeping a video log and also a blog which I have added to my profile. I am about to post about my injection now that I have a moment of free time. And I will hopefully also get around to creating a youtube channel as well.

Some of us call it gender euphoria. And it's very real and palpable, especially if you had to wait ten or twenty years (or longer) to experience puberty.

One warning, though. Keep track of psychological effects--your emotions and especially your impulses. I found myself driving more aggressively without realizing why--it took some real effort to tone that down--and wanting to "win" discussions with my best friend. I also started blurting out things I wouldn't have otherwise said, so I began to keep a watchful eye on that. And over time, I became less and less able to handle multiple sensory input, so driving in dynamic conditions became more challenging than before. One day I found myself overwhelmed with all of the traffic variables I normally handled quite gracefully, and I wound up bumping into the car in front of me. I used to be able to juggle multiple tasks--most people call it multitasking--and now I just get confused or even paralyzed most of the time when I try to do that. I have to talk myself through a sequence of actions rather than just juggle them automatically.

Even now I have to struggle with some of these issues, and I'm convinced that T has just changed my brain in certain ways. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting such changes, and I was occasionally blindsided by them.

To the OP
Thanks for asking this question. I just had my first injection on Tuesday! And was wondering the exact same thing.

After waiting for 25 or so to go through puberty it is very exciting and you said a mouth full when you said " keep a firm grasp on realistic expectations"

Congrats to you for getting started.

First couple days I didn't notice anything. On the third day I would get twitches in my muscles. My lats and biceps changed so fast it was actually kinda uncomfortable. It felt weird when I moved my arms. By the end of the first week the intensity of my orgasms was the biggest change I noticed. My throat didn't hurt, but two weeks in my voice started changing then it dropped significantly over the next week. My acne actually went away when I started T.

When did you start? We're at pretty much the same stage.  :)  I do my 6th shot tomorrow.  I have had pretty much the exact same reaction time which I was super ecited about because I kept reading about people not seeing much in the 1st couple of months.  I also have to legit shave because my chin is growing in weird patches haha.

Within the first week I experienced an increase in energy& "junk" growth.

No scratchiness or tightness of my throat - I have never experienced it& tomorrow marks month 6 from starting T 12/8/12. My voice is much deeper than pre-t but just never got that scratchiness/soreness/tightness.

Like several others have said, it's all different for every individual -- but congrats on starting T, man. That's awesome! :)

Funny how many different experiences guys have with their throats. Even this year, when my voice dropped again (just a little bit), I was having the tickly throat thing for days beforehand. It's fairly distracting and can send me into a coughing fit. I always feel that I need to clear my throat, and there's nothing there TO clear. Then, bam, my voice goes down a little bit more.

I'm holding out for a bass, but I don't think there's much chance.

My first week I experienced growth down there and a change in the smell immediately the next day. All I wanted to do for the first three days was sleep and eat- but I think that was more from the completely unexpected (and my first ever) anxiety attack I experienced when I got my shot.

It was way worse then, but to this day I still sleep a lot. I was never the kind of person that could sleep past like 9:30- lately I have a hard time getting out of bed before noon- which has really sucked for my job haha. If I let myself there are days I could sleep til 2- which is something way unusual for me. I used to be good with about 8 hours, but if I don't get at least 9 I feel way wiped out and I feel the best when I get about 10 and a half to 11 hours. It's ridiculous, haha.

I didn't experience anything else my first week- I didn't experience the sore throat and voice drop until exactly a week from my shot, but after it started it just kept dropping and dropping every week and would crack. It evened out at about 2 months after getting significantly deeper, and scareing some famliy members on the phone haha.  (I'm 3 and half months now)- but every once in a while, like yesterday, I'll notice another (smaller) drop but without the symptoms. But I guess I'm kind of an early bloomer.

I got a really dry mouth about half an hour after my first shot that would NOT go away no matter how much I drank. I got a sore throat the next day and continued to have it for most of that month with the dryness coming and going normally just before I went to bed. Despite that there was no obvious change in my voice till a month and a half in.

I also felt more energetic, plus before if I didn't get much sleep I would be dead on my feet all day now I'm fine and it's been that way since the first week

I started on April 23 - from your sig ticker it looks like I'm just a few days ahead of you. :) I had my 4th shot this past Tuesday (I'm on an every other week schedule). I just did my first legit shave this week because I'm starting to get some thick dark hairs in the sideburn region and my "early teen" style mustache kept making people think I was 14.

It's nice to finally find someone who's experiencing changes at a similar rate to me! We'll have to compare every few months and see how we're doing!

I was really tired for the first few days and I got a sore throat but that was it. I can't remember when I first got hot flushes, I think they started somewhen in the first month though.

Absolutely!  It'll be interesting to compare haha.  You started about a week and a half before me; I was May 4th (which if you're a Star Wars geek like me you realize how funny that is haha).  I had some dark ones along the sideburn, but because of how my hair is cut I could always tell people I needed a hair cut (I do my sideburns when I cut my hair), but the weird patches on my chin would be harder so I've been shaving for a couple of weeks now.  It's so nice, however just like any pubecent boy; the novelty will wear off I'm sure lol.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I just had my second injection this evening. I asked my doctor if it would be alright to do it a day early just so that I could make Mondays my shot day so once I got the okay I went ahead and got the week started on my terms.  ;D

Last week really was... uneventful lol. Physical changes anyway. Mentally and emotionally is another story. I was having a talk with my lady tonight and asked her if she had noticed any changes in my personality this week, or even today which from what I have read I may have been acting a bit moody since my weekly injection was soon due. She mentioned how "mellow" I have been this past week, which made me laugh a bit because I have felt much more laid back and at ease as well. I wasn't sure if it was perhaps me still riding my high or if maybe the T really did have a hand in it. I was actually incredibly happy to hear her say that, good to know it wasn't just in my head. I have a strong character; often caught up in my own thoughts, thinking of everything that I need to do, what is next to do, etc. Some have called me intense when referring to my overall demeanor so I was definitely mindful of my mood and attitude this past week. Truly hoping that aggressiveness wouldn't find it's way in. But none of it, on the contrary, I have been so relaxed and calm about things. And deep down I feel almost a sense of... strengthened conviction? Not sure if that is the right wording to describe what I feel but I simply feel more, myself. If that makes sense.

I have not experienced an increase in appetite. My sex drive, I would say it came in spurts lol. I wouldn't be thinking of it constantly nor was I needing it, but there were moments during the day when she would be beside me... and next thing you know I simply HAD to have her. Is that normal for others? I imagined that the increase in sex drive would be in the sense of it always being on my mind, or always feeling that need. But what I have been experiencing is different, almost like a switch goes off.   :-\

And thankfully... I have found myself with an increase in energy! To help with the sexual spurts lol.
