Title: Starting HRT Soon! A few questions!
Post by: AlexanderReese on June 06, 2012, 09:26:06 AM
I understand there are certain things we can't exactly say on here which is cool, and I respect it, I just hope none of them are included in the questions I ask lol.

First, my therapist said I'm extremely close to getting my HRT treatment (whoo!) and I've been paying her through my insurance, yet my insurance will NOT cover my hormones/labs etc. Which, I expected and honestly, I can't complain considering my therapist was covered at least. :) But I was wondering if anyone could tell me an estimate of what they had/will have to pay for their lab fees and such? I just want to make sure, "hey okay i've got this much money set aside of this. and this much for this" so on. Also, I know we can't speak about the doses of medicines and thats okay, but could anyone who paid out of pocket also tell me how much roughly a month they paid? I have a job and I have another job working with a family business.I just need to know if I'm going to need to get a 3rd job. lol. Thanks everyone!

I would try to run it through your insurance ...my insurance says it doesn't cover trans stuff but I only pay $11 for my T & syringes & needles.....when my son first started our insurance didn't cover it it was about $60 for it all and the T would last him a couple months.

I agree, submit everything to insurance first. They may look at it differently than you

If you get a cooperative enough doctor, they will list a creative diagnostic for why they're giving you lab work and hormones. Also, Walmart has $4 prescriptions for estradiol. They also have it for Finasteride. Unfortunately Walmart does NOT carry the same low pricing for Spironolactone.

All together, I spend about $70/month for all my prescriptions.

My lab work usually comes out to a lil more than $200 every test but I think the place I go to is gouging me. I go every 2-3 months for that.

My doctor is a lil more than $100. I go every 3-4 months.

It all averages out to like $150 a month or so.
