Title: Nails, what to get I need advice
Post by: Cindy on June 10, 2012, 04:20:52 AM
I'm thinking of artificial finger nails. There seems to be several types and I'm not sure what everything means. Anyone have practical experience? I want 24/7 long nails with colour and sometimes patterns and I can change them, at the studio. . What are the upside and downsides? What is the difference between gel and acryillic, is there any? What care is needed? What are the problems? Advantages and disadvantages.

Any comments at all to be honest.

Hi Cindy.  I had a girlfriend in Bendigo who had acrylic nails.  She had them added to as they grew and had to be reshaped.  They would grind down the back  edge with a little grinder and add more acrylic.  I can't recall her having any problems but they were not cheap.

I have mine done in shellac.  It is a multi coat process with UV curing between the coats.  It lasts for weeks, and is dry prettty well straight away, which is handy.  Also doesn't make your nails yellow like normal lacquer.

Thanks Sis,

So you have your normal nail shellaced?  I want some sort of shape as well, so that was why I was thinking of artificial

BTW freezing over here 3C.

I have found that the shellac makes them a lot stronger and can have them long if I let them grow. You could always try and see how it goes. They just soak off in a few minutes with a special remover.

Don't know what it is outside, apart from bloody cold.  I will be going out this evening to the GLBTI Queen's Ball, so will be wearing my big coat over the top. Early night and dry though, I have an exam at 9am on the Public Holiday. :(

The only real problem is that your real nails can get thin, because of the grinding, when they are first placed or when getting fill ins.

I learned to do them myself, it really isn't that hard.  I would have them again, but in my profession, long nails are not a good thing.  You can in just patients and bacteria can hid under them.

On the anniversary of Darth Vader being revealed, you can ask that?

There is one;  there can only be ONE.

That's what happened to mine after I had gel nails for about two years. Condition got better again but they still look terrible. If I had more time I would get gel nails again, at least they looked good and healthier this way.
