Title: Injecting in the leg.
Post by: Darrin Scott on June 11, 2012, 12:49:30 PM
Hey all,

I was wondering if you have to alternate between legs when you inject. I found a nice spot on my left leg an anywhere on my right seems to hurt pretty bad. Are there any downfalls to only injecting into one leg? Does anyone only inject into one leg?

I inject insulin daily, yes, alternate legs and the place on the leg.  If you do it in the same place all the time the effectiveness will be reduced and you will develope scar tissue which will make injecting impossible.

I switch up the legs also. Are you tensing your muscles on the other leg when you inject? It could be since it is your less comfortable leg you worry about pain and then it ends up happening from muscles contracting. Or maybe you aren't quite injecting into the right area, like you've got the needle at a bad angle?

But yeah, I heard only injecting into one leg/spot is bad because of future scar buildup.

I inject fortnightly into my hip-butt, if i "double dip" - inject in the same spot twice in a row, i'll get a lump, if i don't its business as usual =)

I'm on Lantus now, but I use the pen injector with little 8 mm needles.  Hardly even feel it.  I prefer to pinch a little belly fat, and move it around, but that won't due for the guys taking T.

Definitely rotate, I know I have one leg that way easier then the other as well but you have to remember you will be injecting for life, need to look after those injection sites.
