Prof. John Michael Bailey on Monday issued his most extensive apology since hosting a controversial demonstration in 2011 that resulted in the cancellation of Human Sexuality, one of Northwestern's most popular courses.

Bailey's nearly 10-minute speech came more than a year after he organized an optional, after-class presentation involving a motorized sex toy. The explicit display, attended by about 120 students, sparked a University investigation and a review of the Human Sexuality curriculum that led to the class being scrubbed from the next school year's psychology department roster.
"To Northwestern alumni, whose pride in Northwestern I thoughtlessly tarnished, I'm sorry," Bailey said. "To your parents, some of whom worried my class was an expensive freakshow, I'm sorry the controversy gave you that impression. I am. To your administration ... I'm sorry that my actions wasted so much of your time and caused so many hurt feelings among those people you need to help keep Northwestern a great university."
I can only shake my head in amazement. What an uptight prissy country this is.
