It just depends on all sorts of things, but I think its mostly safe to say several(3 or so) years in most cases. I know I was on hrt for 2 years before I went fulltime, by then people were noticing things, but it was still a few more years before everything really settled out on my face and body.

The younger you are, the more they do and the quicker they work.

Youth is powerful, vitality, health....

From what I've heard, complete breast development takes about 5 years, so I guess hormones will continue to work their magic for quite awhile.

Ehm, from what I've read, my crappy evaluation is that, in average:

By 1-1.5 year, you get 60-75 % results.

By 2-3 years, you get 80-95 % results.

By 4-5 years, you get 95-99 %+ results. Some people have reported slow, ongoing change for even decades, though.

I may very well be wrong, but that's definitely the impression I get. Soo~ I guess that in most cases, 3 years is a good time to say that results are fairly done with. Though after just 2 years, it's probably pretty close to the final result already.

Reading the replies, one half of me wants to say.......

CRAP! Is it going to take that long?

and the other half is going

Yippee!!!!! That means I'm still going to get:

More breast growth!
More loss of body hair!
More hip fat!
More feminine appearance!

I can be patient when I know there is more good stuff around the corner.

I've been on HRT for over a decade and it's taken a long time for any real noticeable changes to happen. My boobs have started to put on a growing spurt again just recently and my fat re-distribution has only just started kicking in. I'm not sure why it's taken so long?  I was beginning to think HRT wasn't ever gonna work on me and very skeptical about it for a long time.

It seems to work much faster on other people but I was on pills and not shots! we can't get shots in my country and I believe if I had been on shots instead it wouldn't have taken so long.

Thanks Noey, yes, that is an excellent site, I have spent many an hour there comparing nipples and dreaming of reaching the next Tanner stage!

I didn't have shots either, just powerful testosterone blocker pills that seemed to do the most work. The initial oestrogen did a bit, but the blockers in addition sped everything up. They also made me feel like complete crap for a whole month, and still do on occasion. I wonder what is slowing you down? My testosterone was creeping up and slowing down development before I blocked it.

I've been on for about 14 years. After all the development which took nearly 5 years, the Estrogen keeps me a happy person. No hot flashes. Well a little emotional at times, but thats a women.

Everyone is different and age plays a part as well... But 2 years of HRT is the standard answer most seem to give.

Some blockers (Goserelin) I tried worked in reverse on me even after several tries and increased the testosterone instead of blocking it. It was horrendous and I got continued unwanted erections. I think it was because I have always had a low testosterone level even before HRT. So I avoid taking too much in the way of blockers. But I have been ok with Androcur which seem to work best for me. Also if I take too much estrogen my prolactin levels go sky high and I get severe headaches, so I have to cut down again for a while.

My transman physician from Lyon Martins said to give it three years to determine whether or not one should consider BA.

Basically, your mileage may vary.
Some people still look the same after 5 years, for example.

I had large saggy 40B/C breasts after three years.  Aureoles about 2.5 inch diameter from dime size.   650 cc  insert under each pec at 6 years HRT while surgeon prescribing Valium.

Had absolutely no change in hair growth.  I had very little hair as I could not grow a mustache and I had rest of hair removed from my body.  No regrowh in head hair.

My rear changed very little from 38 to 38.

My skin was always nice and it got nicer.

Dramatic decrease in muscle mass; however I did try to reduce muscle mass.  I digested 50 pounds of muscle after four years.

Calfs went from lean 16 inches to juicy 17 inches; thighs 26 to 24; arms 16 to 13; chest 48 to 40; waist 38 to 32;  weight 230 to 160; time 1 year ago.  Gained 30 pound of fat  past year and waist and hips each up about three inches.  Expect if I lose weight my hips and waist will go down.  I will now go on my typical yo-yo diet and see if rear stays.

Only take low dose E and do not expect any feminizing.

assuming puberty starts when your 12, 4 years, your age 16.

By comparison  there is a HUGE difference between a 12 year old girl and a 16 year old girl.  A 16 year old girl looks basically the same as how she will look well into her 20s!

I find it more interesting that we can actually have a second puberty.

Rita you start hormones at 12 and you will look like a cis-gender girl.

My fossilized DNA says a good 3 years and still going with changes.  The first few months went about the same as when I was in my early 20's.

well duh! Just putting puberty into perspective.  A 12 year old vs 4 years later a young woman which quite literally is 95% there!.  By 26 years old you they are at 100%.
