I am having one heck of a time with purses, they keep sliding off my shoulder?? I know I'm the smartest box of rocks in the pile, what the heck am I missing?? I have tried wide straps, thin straps nothing works, currently I have a Kavu sling, it's a small messenger style bag I have to put over my head, I have seen other women care the same style of purse on one shoulder....... What The Heck.
You're a purse snatchers dream! Don't carry large sums of cash! Hugs, Devlyn
I never liked keeping track of a purse; always would forget and leave it some place and have to go back and get it. Always a problem for me. Now I carry what I need in my pockets, one thing it seems like a guy needs to carry less things around. Have you tried one of those purse that you wear around your waist, this way it ia always with you and you can't leave it someplace as easily.
Ya that's where I'm at :(

EH fanny packs really are not my style...... I do have one for running
I think GGs have different shoulders though this upsets lots of people.
if a favourite bag has a slippery strap you could try stitching a few lines of self coloured cotton across the bit that sits on your shoulder just to give it some grip.
my boss is quite amused by her daughter carrying her bags with the strap in the crook of her arm with her hand held high like starlets do.
I resort to this when I'm shopping and need to juggle bags and get cash out of my purse.
UK speak is handbag = US purse and UK purse = US small cash bag. LOL
Keep your shoulders a bit more up.
When your shoulders are hanging down, the purse will slip to the direction of the ground.
I've been told this has something to do with gravity.
You don't have different shoulders, you put them in a different position.
When you walk, make yourself tall, stand right up, shoulders to the back and the nipples straight forwards, you'll see, it will help.
On you tube I saw a movie how females walk, try to find it, maby you can do some advantage with it.
Good luck, you'll manage.
I have typical female shoulders sloping down. Sometimes I also have difficulties with a purse. Wider straps tend not to have a lot of friction. Narrow leather straps are the best. Plastic/synthetics are the worse. Part of the blame also goes to the fabric of your top.
Winter time is the worse for me. With a heavy coat on there is like no shoulder on me. My bag is always slipping off
I also like leather narrow ones...or I can carry it in my hand, for example in the train or somewhere else
This is one of those rare times when I realize I'm anatomically advantaged. My boney shoulders are perfect for carrying strapped bags. As for you Cyndi, you'll have to consider your options. I wonder if certain garments would help? Try a shirt with emulates, for instance. I like cross shoulder bags, but they don't work with all fashions. One thing I loved about the show Pan Am was the way the ladies carried their bags on the forearms, but that is pretty retro. You could carry a clutch, but that means carrying something in your hand all the time.
I've never seen such a thing, but I think a small bag that straps to forearm-- or is worn like a bracelet-- would be cool. I'll have to look around for something like that.

P.S. - I just Googled "bracelet bag". You can buy handbags with bracelet-size hand loops that allow you to carry a bag from your wrist. I now totally want one. Of course, there are doubtless bags with small wrist straps similar to camera straps, too.
I also have sloping shoulders that don't like to support a purse strap. As a child, I had terrible problems with bookbags. Posture helps somewhat, as does a top or jacket with shoulderpads, but in the end you just have to keep trying different styles of purses until you find one that likes your shoulders. Note that natural fibers will tend to be more "grabby" than synthetics like nylon or polyester.
little piece of velcro glued under the area where it hits your shoulder, it is enough to cause friction to keep the bag in place. Just on the bag not on the shoulder. You just want too cut out the smooth on smooth affect.

An inspired thought! Velcro is a great idea.
You got me thinkin. A common way to affix items like velcro is using silicone RTV. That by itself is an ideal anti-slip finish and it dries clear. For electronics and other more commercial applications there is a version called "self-leveling". In other words a lot less goopie then the typical toothpaste consistency version that flows. Far simpler compared to spreading a thin layer of the common stuff. I have to look around for a used tube at work
Alright I'm no purse master but I do constantly carry a large sized single strap purse and I walk 1 and a half hours to work with it ever day.
First trick is keep your shoulders up, If your shoulders are hanging down your purse is going to fall. Next thing is to be mindful of the strap if you're walking alot then your strap may gradually move closer to the edge of your shoulder you will have to ooccasionally take the strap and move it closer to the base of your neck even GG's have to do this. Carrying a purse can be a right pain but once you get used to it it is amazing. There are days where my shoulders get tired from all the carrying (I carry alot) and I'll put the strap over my shoulder and neck like you do to alleviate pressure.
I hope that helps like I said I'm no expert but I'm so used to carrying a huge purse around at this point I might be able to help a little.
You could use a long strap hand bag that you could throw over your neck and shoulder, but I found the best thing for my small hand bag with 17mm straps was throwing a full water bottle in, keeping it full with the essentials and a little weight, but the times its being a pain I carry it chicken wing style similar to this-

To carry a shoulder bag, rest the strap on your shoulder. In order to keep the bag from swinging when you walk, grasp the center of the front strap to hold it in place. Don't push down on the top of the bag.
One thing I have notice when shopping some bags have the R/L straps in different lengths while others are the same one the R/L just thought I'd mention the last part.
