Title: Voice changes = sore throat?
Post by: AJarrah on July 09, 2012, 12:07:59 AM
I'm only just over two weeks on T, and my voice is somewhat cracky and my throat keeps getting randomly sore, not like a sick kind of sore, and I have no other "symptoms" so I don't think I'm sick, but is that even possible this early on? I was thinking voice effects only started happening a few months down the line. Anyone else had this?

The first couple of weeks my voice was sore too. I had a drop around 2 months. It's normal to me.

Definitely normal man. My voice was sore on and off until my first big drop, which was around 3 months. It was kinda sore in the sense that it was dry and I felt a little dehydrated. Nothing to worry about. :)

It happens a lot, even very early.

My voice started changing around 6-ish weeks though today marks month 7& never experienced any dryness or soreness w/my throat.

I hear lots of guys experience it though..so it just varies it seems.

My voice didn't really change at all, but I definitely felt I was coming down with something — it wasn't sore, exactly, but you know when you start to get a cold your throat feels a bit... constricted? Kinda like that.

It's perfectly normal, as other guys have testified. Congrats BTW! :]

Thanks guys, basically everything you said combined is how I feel. I definitely don't feel sick, it's just like a dry, constricted feeling in the roof/back of my throat (best I can explain it). Not so worried now :P

My throat was sore very early as well (within the 1st week) and started dropping slightly within the 1st couple of weeks.  I've been told mine actually dropped earlier than a lot of guys, but nonetheless it is not uncommon.

My throat wasn't sore, but it felt like it needed clearing. I felt as if I had some phlegm that wouldn't go away.

It still happens right before a vocal shift, even a small one. In fact, it started again today, and I'm praying that I'm not just dehydrated. Also, my voice suddenly cracked on a song that I've been singing fine for months, so I have my fingers crossed.

Never satisfied...

Speaking of which, singing is a huge deal to me, I've been training my singing for a looong time. Does T usually screw that all up?

Depends on what you mean. I've read that most singers can continue singing after T, but (obviously) your voice will be different, and there's a lot of paranoia about not being able to continue singing. You might start a singing thread, or search for one--it's been talked about before.

I'm no singer, but I have to relearn how to sing every time my voice shifts. For example, my voice changed only a little a few months ago, but it was enough to dork everything up until I got used to it. Now I'm fine; I just want a deeper voice.

I have been on T 3 months, my voice has dropped some.  It has dropped and then it stays the same for a few weeks then it drops again.  When it is dropping it does feel like I have something in it so I am continually trying to clear my throat which in turn does sometimes make it a bit sore.  Singing is getting challenging, I find that I am laughing at myself trying to sing lately, it just stops, then it goes up or down like I sometimes don't have a lot of control over it.

There are a couple guys I am following on youtube who are singers. They still sing, but there have been adjustments.

Tsk, tsk watching youtube videos at work (sadly it's blocked where I work). I follow a lot of gq people and so on, but I do follow a couple transguys:
Skylarkeleven:
http://www.youtube.com/user/skylarkeleven/videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/skylarkeleven/videos)

Owen Middleton:
http://www.youtube.com/user/owenthegenderboy/videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/owenthegenderboy/videos)

Both of them are musicians (at least on the side) and very articulate.

ftm kickstart is a great channel, which I don't subscribe due to how many videos there are, but it's very good. I don't know re: singing.

don't get caught.

This isn't a youtube channel, but rather a blog and contains some good info on singing and T.

In my defense, the program we use at work is extremely slow and everything I do is through that so I have to do something while I wait.  It's blocked on our computers too but I watch it on my phone with my office door closed or with my headphones on.  I'm sure people know better but I just tell them I'm listening to music.

I watch skylar but I will check out the others.

Thanks!!

Evan
