Post by: maiyamaya on July 11, 2012, 11:22:16 AM

when i sit i've been trying to pull my knees together and feet out *doesnt hurt my big .... disgusting sack as putting legs together all the way does*
and the walking, talking -_- ugh

Watching other women is usually the best way. Just don't go overboard as too excessively feminine can make you stand out too much. The old feminine stuff with your elbows a particular way and other swishy stuff has mostly faded away these days.

Also depends what you're up to.
Flirting, or e.g. trying to put 'your foot down', try being sweet, being assertive, sexy, frumpy, and on and on...

Stroking your neck when listening --- and wondering how the guy would be in bed :) twirl your hair around your finger - when he bores you, bat your eyelids like a butterfly when he's going too fast, or you just play up to it... blow-kiss when he said something real nice, shiny eyes smile if feeling more coy, turning feet inward when standing and waiting in a queue, says I AM BORED! , hold your fingers down on if hands put on your hips, fingers up - if you want to be perceived more assertive/butch... taking smaller steps (heels will help), using your arms (~like a balance rod, sort of) to balance via your 'new' centre of gravity (your booty)... be less demanding and more kindly asking, check make-up and hair in mirror, use hands to pat them in place (hair, not make-up), learn to apply lipstick without mirror surreptitiously, ...

Honey, the list goes on and on. A lot will simply come automatically, even your voice going UP when getting loud and upset :)

Now have fun,
Axélle

Spend a lot of time observing and hanging out with women.

Forgive my blunt logic but the best way to learn female body language is to actually BE a woman...

IF you need to emulate women there's something wrong because by transitioning you aren't making up a female identity for yourself you are lifting layers of inhibitions from your male upbringing to unravel your true self. In other words the more you allow yourself to let your female vibe out the more your subconscious should do pretty much everything for you...

This isn't how everyone sees it. And for some people, adopting "typical" mannerisms is pretty important to them, especially if they have trouble with being misread.

Forgive my bluntness, but the best way to become a woman (i.e., breaking free of the man-shell) is to learn basic techniques of womanhood, and later, as confidence and experience grows, adapt what "works" for you and discard the parts and behaviors which don't.

Not all women walk straight and tall...there are a few that still walk swishy-style. Perhaps after a few days of all-around swishy, maiyamaya will say, "If I walk less swishy with my arms, I can be more swishy with my legs"...and she will adapt to her own natural style.

What I'd like to point out is, when one says, "If you're a woman, then you will just KNOW what to do." Key word: IF. This brings in a hint--a stench--of doubt.

If you were a real woman, you'd...just like "If you really loved me, you would..." etc.

I think we should encourage each other to be ourselves, learn when/where we can, and don't be afraid to think outside the box.

(Speaking of boxes: maiyamaya, are you trying to cross your legs without being tucked? The sack shouldn't hurt, it's the contents which do...and should be properly inside the lower torso, safe from being squished.)

Just mho, thanks for reading.

Transgender Tips - Feminine Movement Mistakes to Avoid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p70B93DFd10&feature=related#)

Lucille Sorella is a great help for transwomen.  Yes she sells the videos, but as someone who got them I can tell you she is great.

Very good, I fully agree with all mentioned. Fully.

But you have to ALLOW yourself to FEEL these things, lest it all be stilted and unnatural as it is also mentioned.

Thanks for sharing,

As far as the idea that if you are really a woman then you will know how to act, I must disagree. Many transwomen work so hard at trying to prove their masculinity prior to accepting their feminine nature that they have unconsciously adopted a whole host of masculine mannerisms that need to be unlearned in order to act convincingly feminine. I know I have.

I have found that feeling, really *feeling* feminine helps your body language a lot.

It is as if a cisgendered woman was raised in an all-male household on a cattle station in outback Queensland, and suddenly was forced  to live as a woman in Melbourne, or some other city.
She would feel so totally out of place, she would be desperate to blend in, and would watch other women discreetly to learn their body language and mannerisms.
I did a lot of people watching early in my transition, long before I made any changes to my appearance, and it seems to have paid off. Less is more is my motto, so be subtle, it works much better.

Karen.

I honestly don't understand.

What kind of body language school do you think little girls are whisked away to?

Men don't have any less exposure to feminine mannerisms than women do and in the first place if you're a woman then what's there to learn really?

I guess  I don't really get why you would have masculine mannerisms and not feminine ones to start with?  ???

I'm pretty sure there has been such things as feminine deportment classes and lessons for them "real" girls in years past.  But young girls have the opportunity to learn over years and years from their mothers, their sisters, etc. A chance we generally don't get.  Although in recent years, it seems that many women and young girls have gotten away from a lot of what used to be proper for women to do. So now you see a lot more typically masculine mannerisms than you would have seen 40 years ago.

Maybe, that sounds more like an etiquette thing though.

At least afaik mothers don't normally instruct their daughters on fundamental things how to sit, walk, speak, stand and gesture. I certainly know there are a lot of mothers who don't do that at least.

That's actually so common in the UK that there's a name for girls who act in a more masculine way. They're called 'Ladettes'. There was a show in which some of these young women were sent to a finishing school, called "Ladette to Lady". It made for interesting viewing.

I had to help my girlfriend learn about clothes and make-up.

There are varieties, depends whats your goal, are you going to be a wamoan the rest of your life, or like me just dressing ocasionally and trying to pass.
if it like me and is really difficult to adopt the manerism by mocking them etc, i can tell you now is going to be very dificult, and most probably you will give yourself away easily.
my sugestion is as people posted here, feel it from the deep of your female personality, everybody has a female inside but is hiddedn and probably embarasing for straight men to show, just dont think and let her go out while you walk your heels and your female id while you already dressed up and went out, try to walk with ritm not much but enjoy it it will go naturally, try to squeez between your legs all the time, at siting at standing at bending etc, most of the time try to cross your legs even when you are standing waiting for soemthing, it gives a position and straights the muscles to relax.

the rest is up to you, but whatever you do dont be afraid o do a soft movement you are dressed as a girl, already!!!! no one is watching you as a man.

also pay atention where and what your do with your hands, most of the time has to be curl to your adbomen and carrying either a purse or an umbrella, or your phone, our arms are too long and it looks weird when you let them hanging like a monkey, when you walk.
i always wear fingernails and jewelry it also helps on doing something girly like pressing on the nails or arranging a ring or a earing etc.
youll see

looking at women is also usefull but it wont be natural on you to copy right away, you have to see what moves goes well on you.

but better keep it simple dont move unnecessarily,

I've watched women's mannerisms and it has helped me quite a bit. Some were natural to me. My wife pointed out to me that I cross my legs like a women. The first time I wore heel it as like I had worn them all my life.

AS I was growing up, I've seen them tell their daughters to sit up straighter, don't walk like that, keep your legs together, etc. Its usually not a concerted effort as it is correcting them over a long period of time. and yes, I imagine a lot of mothers have stopped doing it and that is why you should notice that many girls don't always do things quite lady like as they used to. I imagine that could likely be fixed through some sort of app on their smartphone though if they can stop texting long enough.
