I know this doesn't sound like much, but for the first time ever my hair is long enough to put in a pony tail!
It's not a long pony tail, maybe 4" , but it's progress :) can't wait till its long enough for pig tails or cute braids.
Also kinda nice to see how my blond hair looks longer....it's been a long time dream finally coming true :)
Cute Hon. I think it is a big step, they all are :-*
How did the interview with the magazine go?

I suppose I was lucky growing up in the 1970's and I grew my hair as long as I wanted it. By the time I was 13 it was almost long enough to sit on. I sometimes forget that others who grew up in a more recent era may have been forced to have short hair all their teenage and adult lives. It must be quite liberating for you Michelle!
I felt the same when I got to put my hair in a pony tail.
I felt the same way a few years ago when I was able to :D but when my hair reached down to my upper back, my dad made me cut it all off :-\
yaaayy! It is a great feeling isn't it! Mine is about the same point, I can't wait for it to get longer
It's so nice to be able to share this with my other sisters here!
I grew up in the 70's but never had it long because of my career in the aircraft business which lasted 30 years.
Now that I'm in the motorcycle Biz it's almost expected to have long hair....bonus for this girl!! :)
congrats!! mine is still to short =/ keep us updated!

Great news. I mostly wear a pony tail because it's so easy and practical for everyday life. :)

I was a rebel and rebelled against male conditioning all my life, so short hair wasn't ever on the agenda for me! I never had a career like you so there wasn't anything to forcing me to look or to be perceived in a certain way.
I don't know anything about motorcycles but I know some guys who are bikers but they are real Macho types.
By the way your hair looks very short in your avatar pic, is it longer now?
I tried growing mine out, but decided that a short bob suits me better. I would have loved to have had a chance to look like Farrah Fawcett back then though.

Yes, the avatar pic was taken well over a month ago, I use it to compare how it's growing, the front is getting quite long also, I actually like how it falls in my eyes ;)
Jealous! The longest my hair ever got in the back was to the collar of a t-shirt. It takes an absolute eternity for my hair to grow long because I shed like a long-haired cat :P
I seriously need to find someone who can help me work out a decent style instead of the unruly mass brewing on my head right now. Talk about getting confused during transition - it gets all wavy and never wants to settle in the right place as it gets long. I fuss too long with it in the morning and I now curse the wind. I don't even want to get started about the subway...
ok....I just gotta know...why cant the hair on my head grow as fast as the hair on my legs, grrrrrrr ;) lol

My doesn't grow much but I've always had my hair constantly long below shoulder lenth for about 20 years.
My pony is just a bit longer, it was surprising when it started to tickle the back of my neck.
Haven't had it cut since I first realized I didn't look like myself, about 1 1/2 years ago.

Congratulations. I'm a bit jealous, as I would love to be able to do that, but my hair is so thin now that's not going to happen.

Way cool Chellie. My hair is to my bra band. I usually use a hair barrette to put it in a ponytail. I have to have it back because it can get in the way when working with my patients. They like chewing on it.
My pony tail is about 6 inches long again after having it cut short for a few yrs. >:-)
Even though its at this really awkward length where you cant do much with it, I am really quite excited to see it getting longer :)
Its always been quite thick even for blonde hair and I have been seeing lots of cute ways to style it as it grows..I'm just gonna let it get as long as I can stand it...Yay!
My cousin who is the same age has always had long hair in a pony tail, but he followed the Grateful Dead and other bluegrass bands for many years so his style is "older hippie" classic, of course living in Durango Colorado he fits right in, lol

I remember wanting long hair when I was around 11. My parents thought I wanted it because I was listening to metal bands and they had long hair.
:D How wrong they were.
I grew up in the 1970's and the term metal bands wasn't really invented back then. That was more of an 1980's term. I started growing my hair very long when I was 12 or 13 and no one cared because it was fashionable back then in the U.K. We also had the glam rock phase, so you could push the androgynous look a little further. I used to wear platform shoes and very colorful clothes. Most people assumed I was female. Great times!
My hair is the one visible change I've made since becoming aware again of who I am. It's now definitely long for a man (which is what everybody still thinks I am). I wish I knew what to do with it...but I'm afraid of having somebody touch it, especially while I'm in this in-between of wanting a woman's cut but still needing to fit in as a man. (Mostly afraid that I won't be satisfied and will be left with too little hair to do something I'd be satsified with.)
Congrats! I've found that growing my hair, I seem to alternate between cheering its new length and bemoaning the fact that it isn't "only another inch or two" longer.

omg, that is all SO true!!
Its amazing that thru all this, so many of us have the same feelings and experiences!! :)
Yay for you and your new ponytail! Looking forwards to hearing about the bratty pigtails :D.
Love,
Rosie
Best thing to do with your hair as it grows: Get it cut straight across once the front hair comes close to touching your shoulders when combed back. Guys with long hair usually wear their hair this way, and it can easily be braided or otherwise treated into styles women more often wear. I wore this style for about ten years. The only downside is that if you have thinning hair it'll show, since you won't have bangs or anything to help hide it--but if your hair is thinning enough you might want to wear a bob or something anyway.
I miss my long hair. I cut it off when my hair started thinning out, in order to let my roots breathe. I'm glad I did--my follicles were getting killed by the weight--but I really wish I hadn't had to.
Good tips, thanx!
I have seen girls around here and in SF that have it long with no bangs but parted more towards the side instead of the middle. I have been getting some pretty good ideas just by people watching ;)
Hey Michelle, It's lovely to hear about your hair. I know when mine was short and it took about a year before I could style it. What I would suggest is to love them :) no harsh chemicals but treat them with nice masks and give them all the care they need and they'd love you back :) in length of course ;)

Thanx! And your style is what I like! I know it will take time, but hey....I have lots of that (hopefully)
Yes I got rid of the cheap shampoo and got some really good professional products and some "leave in conditioner" I can already tell the difference in how it feels nd looks :)
My shower used to have one bar of soap and a bottle of cheap shampoo, now there are nice soaps , several different hair products, razors, shaving lotions....and nice thick Egyptian cotton towels...I love being a girl :)

I've barely begun and I'm already getting that way. It's funny, my mom used to complain that I didn't give a crap about my appearance, but now she complains I spend too much time at it. And I'm still stuck in boy-mode, dammit!
I'm getting up half an hour earlier so that I can, shower, do my hair, including straightening, make-up (minimal) , select what to wear, change my mind, select something else, get the pills together, wash them down with tea, teeth, recheck the make-up, decide I don't like how my hair looks, notice the time, panic, find my handbag, run out of the house, into the car, feel wonderful.
In the past it was get up, shower, jeans and shirt, teeth, get in the car, leave, feel like crap.
Strange world indeed.
