LAFAYETTE -- The head of a prominent conservative Christian group in Louisiana is critical of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for offering a new lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies minor.

The area of study was first offered in the spring. The university offers the coursework as a minor and not as a degree program, which would require approval from the state Board of Regents.

Gene Mills, president of the Louisiana Family Forum, said the coursework is not in line with what a public college should be offering.
