Title: HRT and leg cramps
Post by: Padma on July 20, 2012, 02:47:37 AM
I've recently gone back onto anti-androgens (cyproterone) after a 2 month break from them (which caused my T levels to jump way up, and my E levels to drop way down).

Since I've been taking the AAs, I've started getting regular muscle cramps in my legs - mainly in the muscles at the back of my thighs, but in my calf muscles too. I'm used to having a bit of this occasionally, but this is getting a bit relentless.

Does anyone know of ways to ease this? I'm getting some Magnesium Citrate powder which I've heard can help a lot, but any other suggestions would be welcome.

A number of things, firstly if the cramps are painful to touch and/or are persistent get checked for DVT.

You may want to get your bloods done to check your potassium levels, and you may want to increase your fluid intake (water without the whisky in it ).

Cyproterone isn't a particularly powerful diuretic (unlike spiro which is) but it can lead to increased urine production and associated thirst so taking more fluids may help.

And as they say in the adverts, if symptoms persist see your Dr.
