 I just went to my 1st United Church of Christ Church (First Congregational Church Alameda) an open an affirming "God is still speaking church" where the pastor is a lesbian and she was so warm and loving, she is helping me survive here in the bay area till I get more stable. I also am going to be attending a support group at the city of refuge church in downtown san fran (also ucc) and that I hope will be helpful too.
Thanks to all (and especially Annah) for helping me to see God and Jesus as loving me and accepting me for who I am.
Also been going to a Christian Transgender support group at City of Refuge Church in San Francisco
The UCC is great. I recently joined my UCC church under my chosen name.
While I don't have any direct experience with City of Refuge, I have met Bishop Flunder on various occasions and I know one of the founding members of the Transcendence Gospel Choir.
I won't go into great detail about my run ins with the church, but I have always been intrigued by UCC, not sure my partner will ever set foot in any church again, but I might if it's the right one.
This past January, I spoke to my UCC congregation about my transition. When I was done, they gave me a standing ovation.
I didn't grow up UCC; I grew up Catholic. My ex-wife introduced me the this denomination. We were married, our kids were baptized, my ex was ordained, and we had our divorce ceremony all at the same UCC church: the Congregational Church of San Mateo.
I've been going there off and on since 1988. But it wasn't until after I began transitioning that CCSM felt like home.
