HELP!!! My hair keeps braking off when I brush it and any tips would help. :embarrassed:
Brush gently, don't brush when the hair is wet.

Wide tooth comb or a wig brush. Start at the bottom and use ether an anti-tangle spray or leave in conditioner. Work out the tangles slowly.
If a mere brush is enough to break your hair, I think the problem isn't the brushing but the hair that's too damaged. If it's not your brush that breaks it, it would be your hair elastic or something else, unless you have a brush designed to pull really hard, like those round "brushing" brushes or those tight animal hair (ew) brushes. Or so I think.
If you can without it getting too oily, wash it less often, and make sure your shampoo isn't too irritating. If needed, you can look for a "damage therapy" shampoo or something, as well as a conditioner. You could also look into food supplements with something for the hair for the hair. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4033447 (http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4033447) This looks interesting. Though if you want to buy it, watch it for a while, because it's gone down to 9.99 $ twice in a month already. It'll probably get the reduction again.
Also make sure your hair tools (drier, iron...) are not too violent on your hair. Dry your hair on Warm instead of Hot, for example. Look into tourmaline ceramic products. I don't know, really, but they're supposedly less of a strain on the hair. Don't put your straight iron on the maximum setting. For example, mine goes up to 210 °C, but 170 is enough. At 210, my hair clearly gets damaged. And don't use an iron when your hair is wet (boiling your hair basically, probably not a good idea) or covered with a product (many, many people iron with hairspray on, resulting in hot chemicals boiling around the hair - again, I don't know, but probably not a good idea.
I recently started washing my hair every two days instead of daily, and I've seen a huge improvement. It doesn't break nearly as much. And thanks to my trusty anti-androgen, it doesn't get oily, whereas before 24 hours were all I needed to have it slick and yucky.
thanks, I will look into all of this. ;D
Sounds like over-shampooing under-conditioning. Brushing hair doesn't do much unless your hair is suffering from other problems like split ends. I have found that I need to try to avoid washing my hair except for once a week and then I use a shampoo without sulfates for color-treated hair and then I condition it afterwards.
Gosh, once a week, that's extreme. Mine would definitely stink like crazy way before that! xD (Not to mention my scalp would start to "rot".)
I have some other skin problems and my dermatologist says to shampoo at least every other day. One thing I have been doing though is not taking super hot showers, as I'm led to believe that the heat isn't good.
Hah, I haven't seen a dermatologist, but I hear you on the skin problems from not washing hair enough. If your problem is a scalp that starts to get oily and/or infected and sometimes makes pimples, try this awesome tip I got from a hairdresser: When you're done with your shower, rinse your hair again with cold (not cool, cold, even if it's unpleasant) water and cool down your scalp thoroughly. You can do it with the face and any other part of your body that gets oily or gets pimples, too. Personally, I do it with the whole body (brr). It closes the pores back and helps in reducing skin oil and acne.
Also, I suggest using, once in a while, the shampoo T/Gel, from Neutrogena. Get the extra strength one, because the regular one is pretty weak and feels more adapted to a frequent use (which you don't want, partly because it stinks xD). It's really good at taking care of my scalp if it degenerates.
If your hair is breaking get a protein conditioner treatment. You can even go to a beauty school and have it done for super cheap... like $2 cheap. And it's a simple service, so they're not gonna screw your hair up.
I wash my hair every 2 weeks and its nice and getting very long.. i should get it trimmed too to remove split ends..
Also, shampooing it too much can be bad too. You should only shampoo when your hair is starting to feel oily or if you have gotten it dirty somehow. I only shampoo mine once a week and it's in excellent condition. If you shampoo it too much, you rob it of the oils it needs to be healthy.
Furthermore, if you bleached your hair, be careful of heat. Bleach will make your hair more porous, allowing for heat to more easily damage the strands. You should get a repairing deep conditioner and use that once a week. Use hot water to get the hair wet, apply the conditioner, let set for however long the product says, and rinse out cool. The hot water will open the cuticle layer and allow for the conditioner to be applied; and the cool water will close the cuticle, sealing in the conditioner. Get a professional line (I use Biolage Matrix), the less than professional brands (like Garnier) have deposits in them that make them lather (making you think they work) that are actually not that great on the hair.
There was a time when I felt like I had to wash my hair at least once a day but now once a week and no split ends and my hair is to the middle of my back. And I don't even have genetically good hair, my hair shaft is too thin and wispy so it is more prone to damage.
The other thing that can damage your hair is exposure to the sun.

Sounds to me like a trip to an actual beauty shop is in order to get your hair properly trimmed and the split ends removed.
I only wash it once a week, condition it every other day, and brush it once maybe twice a week and my hair is ok, need to get it cut, but it doesnt break that much and has decent volume.
