A BROTHER asks how he should approach his sister about his belief that she may be transgender.

Dear Alex,

My mum's a massive Big Brother fan and I loved this year's winner Luke A – the more I got to understand his story the more it made me start thinking.

I think my sister might be a boy trapped in a girl's body as well. We've always thought of her as a boy since she was little. She was always a tomboy and all she wanted was to be one of the lads.

Now she's 16 she has short hair and wears boy's clothes. I think she's a lesbian. Me and my mum talked about this and we're cool with it if she is. How do we go about asking her if she is a lesbian or even transgender, like Luke A?

Mike, 18

It's fantastic that you and your mum have thought through these scenarios and are so open-minded. But don't jump the gun.

You don't know any of this to be true. You may be guilty of stereotyping.
