Title: Trach shave - stopping hormones
Post by: Elena G on August 23, 2012, 02:25:48 PM
I'm not sure if this is FACIAL feminization surgery, so that's why I put it here. Sorry if it doesn't belong!

I was wondering if you have to stop taking hormones for a while when getting a trach shave. Is it just like any other surgery? And how long are you supposed to be off them? Oh, and for those of you who had it done, did you have any trouble swallowing or drinking afterwards?

Danke schön!

I don't have it done yet, but what I know is mostly just ambulant procedure with local anesthesia, so I think not much worse than dentist for example (I have 10 lower teeth ceramic  ;D )
There is no risk of blood loss so no need to stop taking hormones, but ask your doctor.

I'm not getting a trach shave, but I am getting some other FFS procedures done, and they said I can stay on my hormones.  It seems like I've heard that doctors commonly want you to discontInue hormones before SRS, though, so you might want to check with your doctor.

I think trach shaves are usually considered to be an FFS procedure.
