Well it has come to this. Seeking help to achieve what must surely be on of the most difficult tasks that any of us can attempt.
I have to admit that I'm a reasonably intelligent woman. I have at least average coordination. I'm fit and I take krill oil daily, so my joints are flexible.
As we all know we need flexible joints otherwise they fall out of your mouth.
But I have reached an impasse.
How do you put a quilt cover onto or rather over a quilt? Or if you prefer, how do you put a quilt into a quilt cover?
One would think this was a relatively easy task. I was even lead to believe that the feminine moans and groans I heard from bedrooms was another female enjoying herself.
But No! It is another woman trying to put a quilt cover over her quilt.
SEX! Who has time for sex. Unless I can get the bed made sex is out of the question.
Only woman can be bothered to decorate their bedrooms.
Men in my experience are quite happy with the only bedroom decoration being a willing sexual partner. The concept of a quilt cover is beyond the male brain.
It is similar to ironing, arranging flowers or the ultimate female only past time - cleaning the fridge.
So have I failed Woman 101?
Do you need a PhD in cotton origami?
Maybe my genetic structure is wrong?
Do I demand more oestrogen?
Or is there a method I have missed.
Yours in frustration.
Cindy
I was going to tell you how I do it, but realised it will turn into a 1500 word essay, with pictures, and I have enough of those with Uni. They are nearly as bad as trying to fold fitted sheets. ???
Karen.

Typical Tasmanian. We know you just pull another Devil Skin over you
Waiting to see what a Kiwi does with 'fitted sheets' (This is a very rude and nasty joke from Aussies to New Zealanders ) Don't ask.
Sorry Cindy.
I have no idea what a quilt cover is.
:embarrassed:
My x's mother makes lots of quilts and to store them she puts them in cloth bags.
So I have some quilted quilts in the house.
Maybe someone else can help.

Ok we buy a quilt which is usually the top dressing of the bed, some people use a sheet under it many do not. The quilt is filled with Down, or padding of some sort and can be light, medium or heavy for a 'heat'level. Remembering it gets hot here.
They are just usually white and 'quilted' to stop the packing from moving around. To keep them clean and to decorate we place them in a quilt cover. Think of a giant pillow case to cover the bed cover. These] we take off and wash to save washing the quilt.

A quilt cover, with a quilt inside
You've somewhat answered your own question Sis :) It's like a big pillow case...
I'd really like to help but I'm terrible at it. I tend to get frustrated and just stuff it in and eventually it evens out, while looking really terrible and bothering me for a good while
I like to think that I have fairly decent spatial awareness, so I'm convinced that the laws of physics change inside of that cover ;)

Mmm Quiltdum Physics
Forgive me if i have the wrong item but there such an easy way of this my mother showed when i was young
you turn the quilt cover inside out then reach inside and hold the left corner and right corner
then you grab the duvet and match it to the same corners so you are grabbing both the duvet and quilt corners
you then lift it up and the quilt begins to cover the duvet you shake it until it is fully inside and just button it up or however it fastens
practice this on a pillow and case and you will see exactly as i mean then transfer the idea to the duvet
Ooooooh
I'll try that.
I do something similar to meia.
I scrunch up the quilt cover like an accordian and then pull one corner of the cover onto the quilt, and then do the same on the other corner.
After that I slide the cover over the quilt one side at a time, holding the corner (both quilt and cover) on each side as I do so. It's almost like putting on pantyhose or stockings. The only difference is once you get to about halfway, you can just grab both corners and shake the cover down the rest of the way.
And I thought you needed clothespegs to hold it to the top and along the edges so neat and tidy before shimmying it down... LOL...
Well, here is what I do. I put one corner in and get my partner to hold it. Then I put the other corner in and pull taut. Then I work in the bottom corners whilst my partner holds the top end. If I didn't have my partner doing that then I think I would probably be tempted to burn the quilt, get lots of clothespegs or other heavy objects to hold the damn thing in place, purchase the 1500 page manual from Tasmania, or get my Ph.D. in origami mixed with courses in yoga to remain limber...
Cheers. :)
I thought this would be a thread about tucking... :o
Well, in a way....it is.
I've never used a quilt cover, just a "fart sack" (same thing, a pillowcase but for the mattress--.mil term) That's fairly easy, since the mattress is reasonable rigid.
OMG, I never thought that I would read about quilt covers, 'fart sacks', tucking, and rigidity all in the same thread... But in the same post no less!?!!! I wonder what other weird and wonderful things this thread will turn up.

How To Put On A Duvet Cover (Folding) (http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-put-on-a-duvet-cover)
Someone needs to add this knowledge to the wiki. It is of critical importance.
BTW all the women in my life use Meia's method.
I am spatially challenged and anything with a knot tends to go inside out on me, so I do the exact reverse. I will share my WRONG method in case anyone else suffers from the same ma-lady. ;)
1. Lay the duvet or quilt cover down on the bed. Make sure it is open and inviting and well spread out.
2. While standing at the foot of the bed, grab the top two corners of the quilt and hold your hands up. You may need to drape the quilt over one shoulder, supergirl style.
3. Climb in to the duvet cover, hands and head first.
4. When you can go no further, stop. Gently extend one hand into the corner until both the corner of the quilt and the corner of the duvet match. Then kind of pin that down and do the same with the other corner that is in your other hand.
5. Now wiggle yourself back out, taking your time. No rushing in bed!
Like I said, this is entirely the WRONG way to do it. But whatever gets the job done in bed, is always the right way. :) If a woman is watching you, she may laugh so hard that she is primed for using the now discreetly covered quilt!

I almost used "turgid" instead of rigid...but I have class. :o

After the first step, I'd be laying down to take a nap on the inviting quilt. Quilts (especially big, poofy quilts) are my Kryptonite.
I always found the best solution to be the simplest ones. In this case, who actually needs a quilt cover? The quilt is a cover and covering your cover seems mighty redundant. Are you going to cover the cover's cover? Of course, I jest about that last part. Seriously though, I don't even have a bed, just a mattress on the floor with the only decorations being my stuffed animals. I've failed as a woman. :'( :'( :'(
in the Uk we put our duvet covers on our duvets just as luan says but the final shaking down is best done standing on the bed.

Sorry Cindy
I think there is some manly part left in me.
The most important decoration in the bedroom is indeed a willing good looking sexy and long legged female bedpartner.
After everything what has to be done is done, my female side is coming up and I will take a look for the decoration of the bedroom.
But, as always, a girl has to make priorities.
So, I failed too.
