Title: Went full time yesterday :-) The world didn't end, the sky didn't fall...
Post by: amybenedict on August 30, 2012, 07:30:11 AM
Hi folks.

It's been ages since I posted on here, but I have been keeping up with most of the news where possible!

So, I went full time yesterday and so far so good. Pretty much all of my family, friends and colleagues have been brilliant, and even my clients have taken it in their stride. Time will tell if they are just being nice whilst quietly dropping me from their upcoming projects, but the signs are good so far! I think the worst reaction I have had is ambivalence, apart from the odd sideways glance in the grocery store, and frankly I'll take that anyday. It feels amazing and now that everyone knows it feels like an even more huge weight has been lifted after coming out to close friends and family last year.

Now I just need to wait for the NHS to catch up...

Onwards and upwards :-)

Sounds like you're doing well. We like good news, and don't be such a stranger, we don't bite! Hugs, Devlyn

hi amy,
does your doctor/bank/social/etc know that you started RLE today?
Written proof of this may come in handy if there are any delays to your progress to eventual sex change surgery.

Congrats Amy,

I'm still surprised what a total non-event it has been. Everyone has been very supportive and very understanding. Should  have done decades ago.

Now how common is that comment from us

Hugs

Congratulations Amy.

Total anticlimax is wonderful isn't it.  I have been full-time for about 15 months now, and I just g about my business like all the other women in this city, and  IT IS BLOODY FANTASTIC BEING BORINGLY NORMAL!!!

I expected some controversy but what I got was total matter-of-factness.

Karen.

Thanks for the support and advice ladies, much appreciated :-)

I start back at my weekend teaching job tomorrow and I have been getting messages of support from loads of the kids and parents already.

And one of my films just got picked up for a kids film festival in Chicago. It's about a girl who wakes up one day with a huge beard, and despite her initial fears she is accepted straight away by her family... Not sure where i got that idea from :-)

Life is pretty good at the moment.x

Surprising how the world does not end when we begin full time.

Congratulations, Amy.

Congrats!,  next thing on list of things to do is get a new state photo id!  Even if you can't legally change gender/name you also don't wanna be arrested when you take out an id with a face that doesn't look anywhere near as awesome as what is it now.

Hehe I often giggle thinking about taking an ID out that says Rita on it, and has my picture and it says Male.  I enjoy the confusion I cause... sometimes xD.

One of the hardest things to get used to is that being a women, people look at you much more than if you're a man. Guys check you out and women do as well, especially if you look fairly cute. They just do and it has nothing to do with being trans or people are clocking you. Don't let that affect your self confidence.

And congrats, I went full time 4-5 years ago, (lose track of when exactly I did..) and it was a total non-issue. Like you said, the sky does not fall :)
